Parents

I'm new to this and I just got an email from Peddie and I GOT ACCEPTED! YAY
BUT my parents won't let me go :( they think this is just my "back-up" school and it isn't as prestigious as the others I applied 2 (Andover & St. Pauls)
Anyone got advise to convince my parents??

just wait until you get your letters tomorrow

they can't make you go to a school you didn't get into, so that's one less argument.

if you do get in just pick the one you like the best and will work to your advantage (environment, proximity to your house, fa?, etc.). You never stated whether or not peddie is your top pick. If it is lay out the reasons why you want to go there, they can't make you go to a boarding school you don't want to go to

and the thing is that there must be something about peddy that they like or else they wouldn't have made that your "safety" and not another school.

And prestige doesn't matter

Roses&Clovers is right. It's probably best just to wait and see what happens in the next day or two. If you do get into one of the other schools, I would suggest highly to go to the revisit days for all the schools you are accepted to. It is at that point you might see some subtle differences in the schools, which is what happened to my D last year. She was leaning toward the "safe" school, which was fine with us, but then when she visited the upper tier school, she felt like they were really dedicated to making her feel at home at that school and that they put a lot more effort into their new students. I guess she felt more welcome and at home at the upper tier school, even though when the acceptances were coming in she was leaning toward the "safe" school. Try not to worry too much about all of it or get into too many heavy discussions with your parents today about all of this. Just wait and see what happens this coming week. And Good Luck!!

kwokaroo u have almost the same problem as me! my dad thought i wrote your post for a sec when he read it!

i applied to eight schools, and i only know the decision of one school, peddie. I got accepted there but don't know the result of other schools. I am probably not going to make a lot more, maybe 2 or 3 accepted schools in total (hopefully).

I applied to:
Choate
Andover
Lawrenceville
Milton
NMH
Peddie
Hotchkiss
Taft

Sorry, gunner33, I see your list is here...good luck with your other schools, cencible son accepted at Peddie also. Will look for your other results.

wow, gunner33 you applied to SO MANY SCHOOLS.
i would die if i had to write so many essays and stuff...
i only applied to three :)
choate, exeter, and andover.

Do you like Peddie? If it is the school for you, then your parents might change their minds. Also, just because it isn't in the TSAO doesn't mean it isn't good. They have a <20% admissions rate, great college admissions, amazing facilities, etc. Go to the revisit and see what you think and what your parents think.

Gunner__33 your dad won't let you go to peddie too??
i only applied to st.paul's and peddie
so chances aren't big for me :(

For any concerns about Peddie, having visited and having sat in on classes, this is a very different Peddie from what it may have been ten years ago. It is a phenominal school in my opinion. Their math and science classes are top notch with excellent faculty. And the same can be said of their English/History Dept. from what I saw last year. Until you've sat in on a math class with their top honors math teacher, you haven't really seen Peddie. It deserves far more credit then it gets on this site.

live&learn - I think a LOT of schools deserve far more credit than they get on this site.
Definately go to revist days - I think your parents will be pleasantly surprised at what they see.

I completely agree with you. Good advice. Revisit days are very important.
