Is parking straightforward during move in? I don't know if I'm supposed to get permits or anything.

Also, what is the point of depositing money into the bruin card? Do debit/credit cards not work on campus?

If you live in the dorms, there’s a parking permit you can print out from the housing website where you get your move-in registration time.

Putting money on the Bruin Card is to pay for laundry (only if you don’t live in Dykstra…they still use coins).

While we’re on the subject of parking,
Does anyone know where University Apartment people can park cars?

so i literally don’t need to deposit any money into the bruin card. I live in dykstra. I just heard all my friends that are going to ucla already put a ton of money in their bruin card so i’m like uhh…

no, you don’t need to deposit money into bruin card. They are just used for laundry (but Dykstra still use the old-fashion quarters for laundry) or easypay for various restaurants on campus. But that’s it.

Your bruin card is not just for laundry and can be used as a debit card in all the stores on campus, but bank debit/credit cards are also accepted. Money can be deposited online so it is convenient to parents.

While the school says it’s more convenient for you to put money on your Bruincard, you’d just be falling into their trap. Any sum of money in an account can earn interest just by doing nothing. Since the school has so many Bruincard patrons (students, faculty, staff, etc.), if more people put money in their Bruincard, the school suddenly has a large sum of cash just flowing in.

Solution: put like $5 or whatever the minimum per deposit is on your Bruincard and use your debit/credit card. Makes for easier financial tracking too with something like the Mint website.

Plus, whatever money you put in cannot be taken out. I use it strictly for laundry and the rare occasional impulse purchases when I’m in the UCLA store with no money.

how do parents deposit money into my bruincard?
