I have a few questions regarding parking on campus. What makes the 5th street garage so special as to have a $400 permit price? I would like to park my truck in a garage but I am unsure if the 5th street permit is worth the $400. What about the other garages? I did read that the 5th street permit guarantees you a spot, which is nice. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
The 5th street garage permit is extremely convenient if you live in Brooks College, Kokernot, or Brooks Flats. As a Brooks College resident I had the 5th street permit last year and it does make small trips such as grocery runs much easier. However, the biggest drawback about the 5th street pass which I came across is you are not allowed to park in any other garage on campus until after 5 PM. Since I like to spend time on east campus by the BSB and at the SLC, this became a problem since I had to wait to move my car. If you plan on walking or biking across campus always and want the convenience of 5th street, I’d say it’s worth it. I’m going with the all-garage Flex pass for next year, though. Collins Garage is close enough for me to make 5th street’s extra cost and exclusivity not worth the convenience.
