Parking

How does the parking work for kids that move off campus? DS lives in Honors now so parking is not an issue. How is the student parking assigned for off campus students?

Your son will need to purchase a commuter pass. There are different commuter zones and perimeter zones, so he’ll need to identify the zone that would work best for him.

Thank you!

@BamaMom18‌ will he be moving to a complex that has a bus to campus?

Yes. He is moving to the Lofts. Unfortunately the bus stops running qt about 6pm and he has some classes that go later than that.

He could possibly use the Ferg Parking deck just on the day/days he has late class, and use the shuttle the rest of the time. If he drives and parks just 1 or 2 days/week, that might work? More than that and he probably does better on $$ by getting the pass.

After a certain hour, there are no parking restrictions in certain lots.

This quote from the UA Parking Regulation website: “During zone-enforced hours (7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday) vehicles parked on campus must display a valid University of Alabama permit and the vehicle must be parked within the permitted zone. Any changes to this rule during summer or interim terms will be posted under Announcements on the Transportation Services website.”

Probably the best option is to get a commuter pass.

After researching the different commuter zones, does anyone have experience with the Southeast vs the Northeast Zone? It seems like many want the West zone but I’ve read it fills up fast. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. He is coming from the Lofts.
