Parrish Challenge Met!

From the Swarthmore website:

"The Parrish Challenge has raised more than $4 million in gifts and pledges for the renovation of Parrish Hall, allowing the College to claim an additional $1 million challenge grant from the Kresge Foundation.

By December 31, 2005 - the last day of the year-long challenge - total funds raised exceeded $4.3 million. That total will grow as end-of-year gifts continue to be counted.

Swarthmore would like to thank the nearly 1,600 alumni, parents, and friends of the College whose outpouring of support made it possible to reach the Parrish Challenge goal. Gifts and pledges came from classes ranging from 1928 to 2005, and from all parts of the country, from Canada, and from alumni around the world. The College also extends its thanks to the Parrish Challenge Committee, whose members spearheaded the fund-raising effort.

The $5 million raised by the Parrish Challenge, including the Kresge grant, will allow the College to complete the funding for an $18.4 million comprehensive project including the renovation of Parrish, remodeling the Sproul Observatory into a new alumni center, and endowments to maintain Parrish and Alice Paul Residence Hall made necessary by the renovation. All gifts to the Parrish Challenge also count toward the $230 million Meaning of Swarthmore campaign."
