I had a few questions about parties at Colby. I’ve heard on many websites that a “party” at Colby consists of a few people getting hammered in a dorm room? Is this true? What’s the party scene like on campus? Drugs? Alcohol? What type of music is played? Dancing? I want the whole shebang.
@sweatthang13542 As a parent, I don’t usually respond to these types of threads, however, I think if you are more concerned about the quality of the partying scene than the quality of a school like Colby, then perhaps you will be happier elsewhere. Young people studying in Maine have an amazing outdoor wilderness to enjoy every season for fun, it is fun that goes beyond partying.
@MaineLonghorn Agreed! I grew up not far from Colby. It is a great small and beautiful LAC. It is a fantastic location for anyone who adores the great outdoors and four seasons, right in the heart of Maine. I wish young people cared more about the quality of their education and not so much about partying, but I guess it is their path and their priorities.
Our Australian Shepherd came from a breeder who lives near Colby! It IS a beautiful area. My son ran in a meet on campus one time when he was in high school.
@MaineLonghorn and @NorthernMom61 , I never stated that I was only looking to party. The whole reason that I chose to apply for Colby ED is because it’s an amazing college, that will provide me with a solid education and other opportunities. Colby is very selective, and the very fact the I was accepted shows how serious I am about my academics. However, as a teenager, when I’m not studying I like to have fun with my friends. I want to know more about the social scene on Colby before I get there. Personally, I don’t drink or do drugs, but from what I’ve read, this is one of the main “extracurricular activities” that some of Colby’s students participate in. I want to make my own opinions when I get on campus, but it also wouldn’t hurt to know what I’m getting myself into. I’ve never really been to a party, especially college party, so I’d like to know the jist. Can you Blame me? I see no correlation between liking to party/being curious and not caring about my educations.
Drinking or doing drugs is an extracurricular activity for kids at about 99% of colleges. I think what struck as odd is that this is the ONLY question you’ve asked about Colby on this website.
^@sweetthang13542 I would suggest you ignore the rude, judgmental, out of place comments from the “NorthernMom”. You have every right to ask any question that you are curious about.
@sweetthang13542 Congrats on your acceptance! You ask a legitimate question. I don’t have any first hand knowledge of the parties there.
Whether at Colby or any other college, just be aware that there is a higher incidence of adverse circumstances for students who are new to college. Make sure you know someone else at the party, and that they will be willing to intervene if things don’t look quite right.
At an Ohio LAC last winter, a student became disoriented after drinking, slipped and fell, and froze to death overnight. He had been drinking with 2 other students, but no one had his back. Just pay attention to your surroundings, form friendships with people that you can count on, and have fun!
Thank You @MidwestDad3 and @CHD2013 ! I’m very excited to be attending Colby in the fall! And y’all are absolutely right! Students don’t come on this websites to search for things that can be found in the college brochure or on the campus website, we want to know about all of the nitty-gritty. Thank you for answering my questions! I only wish that the internet wasn’t so full of judgmental, overly critical people, who aim to discourage curiosity. But you know what they say, “Haters Gonna Hate”!
