I’m currently in high school and looking at Skidmore. It seems like a really great place! However, I was wondering, can you party there? I know it’s not a party school and there is no Greek Life, and I’m fine with that. I was just wondering about the party culture, difficulty of getting in to them, what kind of people go, how fun they are and stuff like that.
So I’m a freshman at skidmore, and people definitely do party here, but many think the party scene could be a lot better. Parties are either at apartments or off-campus sports houses. They aren’t hard to get into exactly, you mostly just need to know someone who knows that they are happening, they aren’t usually exclusive. The apartments do tend to get shut down–but that really isn’t a big deal, no one gets in trouble. the sports houses tend to end early, a lot of the times you’ll get there and its already over. there are several bars downtown that have 18+ nights, but there’s always a $10 cover charge. a lot of people have fakes though, and some of the bars/clubs take them.
I don’t really know how to answer what kind of people go to parties. Could you elaborate more on what you mean?
Sophomore at Skidmore. As andover2016 said a lot of the parties are either at apartments and sports houses( although I’ve only been to like 2 sport house parties). The parties are fun to an extent, however, especially with some of the apartment parties it does get a little repetitive after awhile, maybe I should expand my horizons since most of the parties I do go to are on-campus apartment parties, lol. There’s also stuff in town too like Putnam and mine, but for a lot of these places you need to be 21+ or have a fake, however sometimes Putnam has 18+ events, but the cover charge is as Andover2016 kind of high. It’s fun, but $10 is a lot. Sometimes there are parties at Falstaffs too. So yes there are parties. Most of the apartment parties I have been to are pretty easy to get into. However, for some parties it is helpful to know someone there or else you might not be let in. All different types of people go to these parties. But, yeah sometimes I do feel like the party scene could be better, but it’s not bad. I feel like Andover2016 described it pretty well though. Everything they’ve said is pretty accurate.
Yeah I feel like everyone who wants to can party. The people who don’t party usually just aren’t interested in going out. It’s hard to make a blanket statement for everyone, but I feel like the party scene is casual enough that its accessible to most people. I would say that most people at skidmore do like partying and going out.
My daughter is a freshman. I think there is a healthy party scene at Skidmore. Saratoga Springs lends itself to this. As one of the posters mentioned, off-campus houses are often a gathering place, as are bars and clubs in downtown Saratoga Springs. My daughter has a very active social life.
Skidmore is my daughters first choice as a fine art major, she is considering applying ED1 but definitely hesitant because of mixed ratings of the social scene. Can anyone else comment?? Thank you!
