Hey, i like duke a lot, except i'm sorta nervous about the partying aspect. i love everything about duke, from the clubs to the intensity of the students. except i don't feel comfortable at parties cuz i don't drink and i don't really dance, and i'm just not comfortable in that type of social setting.

would i feel left out at duke?

and i know that there's a ton of stuff to do besides drink/party, but that doesn't really matter if the vast majority of people are gonna party.

Hey, it's okey... I don't dget drunk every weekend myself, and I wreslted for about 7yrs which means I can't dance either... We are relegated to doing wrestling moves and pretending to dance... but you can still have a good time partying... You aren't forced to drink or smoke like you were used to at duke... Back in the 80s the orientation consisted of three parties (one on west, and two on east) where you just got drunk... and the school endorsed it. but then again the drinking age in nc was 18 back then, so yeh...

I certainly don't fit the party school mold, and neither do most of my friends at Duke. True, there are people who party and get drunk, but I wouldn't say it's a "vast majority." Compared to a school like U Chicago, then yes, Duke is a party school. When you compare it to schools like ECU, Colorado, or Michigan, then Duke really has a fairly calm social scene. There really is a lot to do if you're not into hard-core partying.

If you aren't into partying all the time it does take a little bit longer to find your group, atleast it did in my case. I'm not opposed to going out and having a good time, but hardcore parting really isn't my thing. I just now found some people who I'm really having a fantastic time with, so keep that in mind. Of course, it's going to be like that at most schools...Duke is really no different.

A lot of kids drink, and drink a lot, but I doubt its even a majority of the students. It just seems like a lot of students drink, but its just that the people who do drink do it often. And East campus is technically a dry campus where there is no drinking. Of course that policy is usually not adhered to, especially in certain dorms. For many people, there's enough to get involved in that you don't have to go to drink all the time. It is a little harder to find people of that nature, but there are many people like that. Keep in mind that Duke students are smart and also spend time working hard as well, so thereh as to be a certain balance between partying and academics.

There's a substance free dorm where no one drinks as well. Sometimes kids in my dorm feel that we'd be doing better with our workloads if we lived there hehe.

interesting chart but it would be wise to note that princeton belongs at the top because its a way smaller school with a larger genius scholar yield... everyone knows that actually. as for partying you left out the number one party school VANDERBILT. THE NERD LIST YOU SENT IS VERY COMMENDABLE THOUGH THANKS ILL KEEP THAT IN MY POCKET IN THE FALL INCASE I NEED A GENIUS TO HELP ME TAP THE KEG!

I live in Brown, the substance free dorm, and i have to say that living here is probably the best decision i could have made with regard to my social life at Duke. Brown is very much a community which might alienate us a little bit from the other dorms, then again i dated a guy in Bassett (one of the other dorms) earlier in the year, but the people who live here are just so awesome that it makes it worth it. We manage to have plenty of fun without going out to parties and getting drunk. I mean during orientation we dressed someone in box's like a robot and took them to the hiphop party duke was throwing us. Its just the crazy kind of fun stuff we do that makes Brown an awesome place to live and makes the Duke experience fun without all the drinking.
