Partying at Stanford

I know a lot of people come on CC asking if they will be ostracized for NOT partying or NOT drinking. I am asking somewhat of the opposite: how big is the party scene at Stanford? I don't mean 'partying' as in sit around and tell stories while sipping a beer, more like the crank the stereo and shotgun the six-pack before dominating the Beer Pong table kinda thing. What proportion of the student body participates, and to what degree is it accepted by the administration?

~Geoff~

I've heard the administration is kinda anal about it--cutting off parties at 1 AM, etc. which has caused some discontent in the student body.

not true. parties go on all the time here, and they're pretty good. the alcohol/party policy is incredibly lax. from thursday-saturday you'll never have trouble finding a party on the row.

it seems like half the student body is into going to parties and the other half isn't. it's easy to do either and no one looks down on the other.

When I visited a few weeks before AW, there were tons of parties everywhere and there was no 1AM shutoff. You will have no problems finding parties.

The OSA is a bit anal about large, organized parties (like frat parties), though they certainly don't cut them off at 1 AM. They just like to impose restrictions on things like security (they can't let you in without your student ID), how much alcohol can be served, etc.

Most of the partying, though, is done by friends in their own rooms or dorms. The school is quite lax about this. As long as you don't break anything or anyone, they generally don't care. Unlike at some other colleges, your RA's will come and hang out at the party. They can't drink with you, but they certainly won't shut you down or bust you.

I think the most important question is: are the girls hot and wild in the parties?
