i go to PCC too, i just wanted to say hello. i'm going on my third semester and depending on how lenient the UCs are with units, it's likely i won't finish until next fall.

oh no, of course not, buying books at the bookstore is like throwing away money. im buying them on amazon.com. im just gonna go to class without any books and not buy them until im required to, and until then ill just borrow the books from the library as nescessary. thanks!

My professor told me that PCC is the best community college in US. Whenever he goes to eastcoast and when ppl ask him where he teaches, people show more interest when he says he teaches at PCC than USC. He says also that PCC placed 1st,2nd,3rd within last 18 years, and last year PCC was first.

best in math*. he is my calc teacher.

are there still a lot of people here? i went there for fall 05, winter and spring 06, too many people during fall and spring and no parking and classes closes really fast, how much is parking now? it was 64 last year but i heard it went up? also did the winter and summer parking go up from 20 bucks?

Hi Lancers! I'm heavily considering attending PCC because although I got into Brandeis and UCI, I only got 15 K from Brandeis, meaning that I'm going to have to come up with 30K by myself (parents aren't paying.) I'm currently applying to scholarships right now but being realistic, they won't be enough to allow me to go to Brandeis while collecting a reasonable amount of debt. I would be enthusiastic about attending PCC because I really want to go to grad school right after undergrad so money is a BIG issue. Should I go to PCC then or collect a huge amount of debt in a 4 year LAC?

Also, I've heard about the UCLA-PCC transfer program where you must take 18 units of honors courses...does this mean that if you do receieve an A or B in all ur honor class that ur guaranteed a spot at UCLA? Are there any other type of transfer programs that PCC has? Although I did take a math class last year at PCC (Math 9), I didn't get the opportunity to ask the guidance counselors such questions

Sorry, but one more thing :) I took Math 9 last year at PCC and received a B, if I do choose to attend PCC this Fall, will that be taken off my transcript since I took it while I was in high school? Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to read it and hope to see you all soon next year as a fellow Lancer! :)

hi haberdayshery. If you decide to go to pcc, you are going to save a lot of money for sure. Its up to you if you're willing to sacrifice your first two years of your "college life." PCC isn't that bad. I guess its different for everyone. I personally think it's the best decision i made and I had a great time here. Now to your questions.

Yes, pcc has a scholars program that will give you priority for ucla not guaranteed admission. This is of course if you complete 18 units of honors course with an A and a B. I don't know if it counts if you get a C. Maybe somenone on here doing the scholars program will know and give you even more details. Yes, there are other programs here at pcc as well. UCI has a guarentee progam call PAIF, but it excludes certain majors. UCSD has a gurantee program called TAG, where if you take certain courses and you maintain a 2.8 gpa you'll get into the school. However, the downside to this is that you are not automatically admitted to your major of choice. I think there's also a guarentee program with ucd. Ucsb also has a guarentee program and you don't need to take any classes or sign any agreement.

The B on your Math 9 will be on your transcript. You can't remove it or anything. It's permanent.

btw i've been recently accepted to uci, ucsd, and ucsb. still waiting for ucb and ucla. I did not do any of the guarentee programs. i think its much easier to get into a uc as a transfer student than as a freshman. Good luck :)

Don't you get resident status (giving you the benefit of 23$/unit) after 1 year of schooling?

The scholars program is NOT honors. It's just extra stuff you do on the side of class. IE an extra reports, or just attending another meeting about special topics. None of it counts towards your grade.

yea you are able to apply for resident status after a one full year in cali, regardless of in school or not. you've got to have papers and documents to prove it though, and the things they ask for can be found somewhere on the PCC website. I'm also still waiting for my year to finish. Paying out-of-state tuition of 180/unit (approx 4,000 this semester) is kind of ridiculous for a community college.

Thanks sakura812 and walnut for your input about the transfer programs! I really appreciate it because I called PCC's counseling department and they told me that they couldn't give me stats about how many pple transfer to UCs and the average stats unless I filled out the admissions application and all that. Congrats on ur acceptance Sakura and good luck with UCB and UCLA!

Does anybody know how rigorous it is to transfer to a private college (Top #35 schools) from a CC?

i know this is a little off-topic, but i'm rather desperate. i'm in tharts7a with foster, and i don't have my term paper assignment and i wanted to get a head start on it over spring break. if you know anyone or are enrolled in this class, please email me!

i went to a private school and am finishing my last semester here at pcc, so if anyone is interested in transferring to the claremont colleges, i can answer some questions.

^^why don't you email him for the assignment? Is he not available? Sorry I don't know anyone in 7a. Btw, just wondering, you transferrred to a claremont college?

nope, i went to a claremont college. just finishing up elective units here at pcc.

i emailed him, but he didn't email me back. =(

holy crap i didnt know there were so many PCC kids here

Hey! I'm planning to attend PCC this fall, I wanted to register for the summer but my family and I might go on vacation for a month...can you guys give me some advices on what I should do right now?

**pasadena!!!!!! a great place. i've seen the city college. it's brilliant. so close to huntington library, so clos to caltech, so close to norton simon museum. **

but bad air!!

umm so can someone answer my question on page 17?

when are you going to vacation? What class are you taking?

Probably around end of june to near end of july, im planning on majoring EE or CS

If you are going on vacation you probably can't take summer class unless you go on vacation during August bc the summer intersession start on mid june and go all the way to the end of july. EE is a heavy unit major so it's a good idea if you start early bc you have lots of math and physics to take. But I've seen people who done it in two years starting fall. It's up to you. What class exactly do you want to take during the summer?
