If you take a pre-req course for Pass/Fail, hopefully pass. Will this allow you to take the next sequence in the class - one that counts towards the major?

Also, does this not count at all towards the GPA or counts as zero towards GPA?

P/F grades (in the College) do not count in calculating the GPA.

The way you structure your question about the pre-req course becoming the bridge to another course in the sequence which becomes part of your major and GPA is an interesting technical question. It may be so. Are you attending UChicago now? If so, your advisor should be able to tell you.

The problem is that if P/F grades are not allowed in the subjects that you are majoring in. Since this is a pre-req, then it might be a problem for a lot of subjects.

@Dipali if you are a current student at UChicago, I’d consider contacting your adviser with this question. They will be able to provide a much more accurate and specific answer than you might receive here.
