Passing online course help?

So currently, im a junior and i'm enrolled in game institute's c++ programming module I and II, if i pass this course will this look good on my college application considering i plan on majoring in computer science? I REALLY REALLY want to go to USC Viterbi for their Computer Science(Games) B.S degree program. Will this look at all impressive on my college application?

Hello? Anyone?

Online courses are good because it shows you’re taking the initiative and learning outside the classroom. A good grade can only help you.

On a scale from 1-10(10 best, 1 worst), what would rate this as to being impressive or in any way help my college application?

What impresses with computer language courses in high school is whether or not you go beyond passing a course. So suppose you took on a project (possibly to assist some department in your school, or some local company, etc.) in which you applied your C++ knowledge to solve a practical problem – possibly a tool that can be used often to automate a manual function, or to solve a complex real-world problem – then your C++ course would impress.

However if the essence of your class is that you’ve increased your competence in C++ then it’s hard to see why that would impress.

In module II, theres a project where you make a air hockey game using the win32 api, would this impress them since i’m applying my knowledge of c++ and win32 to make it?

Hello? anyone

No because it’s still a class assignment. Knowing c++ in itself is not going to shock anybody because there are many programmers in the world. Applying your knowledge to solve a problem in your community or making a project better is what will be impressive.

I think it will show your enthusiasm for computer science and will look good on a college application. However, more importantly, the more programming you do, the more you will get out of your computer science program at any school. If computer science is what you want to do, and of course I assume that you want to be awesome, then there is no downside to learning as much as you can. It can only make you more valuable.

won’t it show that i’m capable of learning more advanced techniques and languages since i’m already more advanced then other people trying to get into the CS major?
