PASSION! Does it count?

Hi, guys! I'm currently a junior in high school and I'm stongly considering the idea of applying this year as a senior BUT...

Do you really have to show passion for SCIENCE? I mean, I know you have to take the GIRs no matter which major you're gonna be choosing later on (because I know you don't declare major right away) and that involves chemistry, physics, calculus and all that. Either way, I'm absolutely positive that if I get accepted I will major in Management. (I think you know where I'm getting at)

Will not showing absolute, infinite and never-ending passion for science hurt my chances of acceptance even though I will be majoring in Management? It's clear to me that MIT offers admission to the Institute and not the the Schools within but still...

THANKS IN ADVANCE(:

It helps to enjoy science and excel in it, but there are many students who don’t necessarily want to go into science. Remember, it is a technical school, so science or math will be integrated heavily into any course you take @ MIT.

Advice from a MIT student: If you are dead set on majoring in Management, don’t come here. There is a general notion on campus that MIT students who major in Management aren’t “smart enough” to do the engineering majors. It is regarded as one of the easiest majors (if not the easiest) here at MIT, and most people who major in it will combine it with another (engineering/science) major.

I’m not trying to discourage you - rather I’m trying to tell you the general notion on campus regarding majoring in Management. You have to love being hard-core in math/science/engineering to truly enjoy your time here. MIT admissions will not reject you because you want to major in Management - but they want to see if you can handle all the hard STEM classes that you have to take regardless of your major. All the students they take have shown to be able to handle that, hence our very low attrition rate.

@iceui2-That’s precisely why I would love to be admitted to MIT because even though I will be majoring in Management (and I know it) I would like to double-major with engineering (don’t worry…I’m VERY aware of the workload) but I’m not exactly mindset on a specific one. I would like to explore for my second major. I don’t know if the impression I made was that of hating science, but if I did then that wasn’t my point at all. I like science (and math), just not every branch of it because I truly hate biology.

@What worries me is the admission. Because as I said to iceui2, I will put on the application I will be majoring in Management but then my willingness of pursuing a double-major with engineering will go unnoticed :’(

Anyway, I really appreciate the advice and the time you guys took to answer me! THANKS(:
