Passion vs. Money

“The world is full of people who have decent jobs they work 40 hours a week at and find meaning in their children, spouses, etc. You cannot ask strangers on a website to tell you whether you will be such a person or not.”

I did not say he said that…you aparenty need to read more carefully as well. I said “I hope you don’t think”

Im not sure what he was trying to say but it sounds like hes saying most people are perfectly happy with their family and kids and a middle class life style…AKA the “average” life

and look at that Prothero interpreted it the same way, cuz now he wants to give up his goal and go for an “average” life

Plus, how is Prothero naive??

“give up this idea of becoming rich and become an accountant or something.”

Sorry, your the quotes confused me I guess. You once again used quotes when referring to Prothero. Stop it.

haha i didnt realize you were so sensitive to quotation marks…sorry?

yes, that statement makes him naive…but what he was saying earlier doesnt

I am naive as steve.

So accountants make a ton of money, I hear?

^^Yes, every single one of them. It is a golden ticket to fast cars, beach houses, and an lots of awesome Jewish weddings.

plscatamacchia, are you a nurse or a MIS major? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/912108-reasonable-debt.html

^^I save computers by day and people by night.

Thanks for being so interested. <3

I’ll reiterate, if you want above average and you define that by something other than making money, you WILL NOT FIND IT BY ASKING STRANGERS ON A FORUM DEVOTED TO SPREADING INFORMATION ABOUT BUSINESS MAJORS IN COLLEGE.

If you define it as making A LOT of money, this isn’t a very good place either. If we knew, we wouldn’t be on this website. Asking us either of these things makes about as much sense as me asking taxguy how to beat Fallout 3.

Right now, your desire to be rich is great. It will keep you motivated. Then what happens in the real world is you get married and have kids and sometimes you rethink what is really important. You will want to spend time with your children and you have to do what your wife wants.

chillout jonahrubin you dont have to respond to things if you dont want to…hes just asking a question

There are engineers in the Maryland/DC/Virginia area who are independent contractors to the federal intel agencies billing $115/hour.

I’m just curious is there any college courses teach students how to start their own business with great examples?

dude “starting your own business” is called entrepreneurship…and yeah they have classes on it. what do you mean by examples? you can google plenty of accomplished start up businesses

GlobalTraveler, billable rates aren’t that informative unless you have a good grasp of the business organization of these engineers. How many hours do they have to spend arranging business? Do they have people working for them that are salaried? What’s their overhead? Can they realistically work and charge 40 hours a week? Do they need to carry insurance in order to operate?(like doctors, lawyers, CPA’s, etc)?

cool, would like to take one of those entrepreneurship classes in the future, to get some ideas and inspirations.

Those entrepreneurship classes are often silly. A good entrepreneurship program will pair entrepreneurship majors with actually successful entrepreneurs, which could be really good.

So in those entrepreneurship programs, the classes are only for those entrepreneurship major students?

an entrepreneurship class is basically a business management class. they tell you what the steps are to growing your own business and the tricks you need to know.

the thing about being an entrepreneur is not just that you have the skillset, its what kind of person you are and your work ethic. the success of your company completely relies on how hard your willing to work and the risks your willing to take. its not like a lot of other jobs…its much more of a high risk but high potential kind of thing.

jonahrubin is saying that a good entepreneur class will show you examples and allow you to talk to/work with entrepreneurs who know the field well

^^You’re a junior in hs. Why are you giving anyone advice on college coursework?

Don’t you just hate those whippersnappers?
