Pathway of becoming a Physician assistant

OK so i’m a first year student at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica doing a bachelors degree in biology. My question is, is this degree accredited in the US and will it get me into a Physician assistant school there?

As the parent of a PA student, I can give you some advice. I am not familiar with the University of the West Indies, so would suggest that you look at the websites of US PA schools to see the specific biology and science courses they require to be admitted there. Secondly, I would suggest that you consider the amount of hands on medical experience required to get into PA school which is usually 600 documented hours at minimum, but frequently more as a nurse’s aid, technician, etc. Getting into PA school is extremely competitive in the U.S.right now, as there are a limited number of schools and therefore openings for admitted students. A high proportion of PA students have full time medical experience prior to being admitted. Best of luck to you.
