Paying for Nova Southeastern

Nova Southeastern University is my top choice. I've been accepted a few other places in Florida but Nova seems fitting for my career path of marine biology. I'm just not quite sure how to pay for it. I've applied for financial aid and some scholarships but I don't know if that will cover enough of the tuition. I really just want to know, is it worth it? For the money, is Nova Southeastern the best school for me?

The “best school for you” is one that you can afford!

Why would you apply without knowing if you can pay for it??? Go to the school website, run the net price calculator (NPC), and see what you come up with. Nova does not claim to meet 100% of a student’s financial need, so there’s a good chance the cost of attendance is going to exceed whatever financial aid you’re awarded. But run the NPC and find out. There is no magic money fairy that’s going to make up the difference if Nova ends up costing more than you can afford . . . so I hope you’ve applied to at least one college that you KNOW is affordable!

Yes, I am aware-rude. I’ve applied and been accepted to 6 other universities that I can pay for. I was just wondering about Nova.

Even if you run the NPC, you won’t know what the numbers really look like until you have all the aid packages and can compare them. I know it is hard to stay patient about this, but that is all you can do right now.

That’s true, thank you!

I think what dodgersmom is being was realistic. We also don’t know, for example, how much your family is going to have to pay in a worst-case scenario, and why Nova Southeastern is your top choice (what kinds of opportunities/resources does it offer?). With the information you provided us, we don’t know how much in debt you’re going to be, how much your debt your parents have to assume. 22k worth of debt looks a lot different from, say, 50k of debt at graduation. What does the NPC say, without competitive scholarships?

Realistically, most posters who don’t live in Florida won’t know what Nova Southeastern is, and why it’s good for Marine Biology. What’s the pay-off at Nova versus the other half-dozen schools you can afford? CC, sadly, is full of students who end up not being able to go to their top choice simply because they cannot afford it, at all.

Nova isn’t particularly well known for its marine biology program. If that’s what you’re looking for, why didn’t you apply to Eckerd?
