So excited to get into my dream school! But…how man I going to pay for it??? My parents make a whole bunch of money, but that does not mean my family can still afford to pay for all of the tuition. Does UVA offer any scholarships I can apply for or do they match other scholarships I may have received? Or can I get in-state tuition because a majority of my family lives in Virginia? Or are outside scholarships and loans my only option?
At this point most of the money is already allocated, so even outside scholarships aren’t readily available. At least the first year will be full pay.
You will not get in state tuition. If you want to go to UVa your parents will have to spend some of that whole bunch of money for tuition or cosign big loans for you.
Had you run the NPC before applying?
Have you received financial aid/looked at your financial aid yet? It sounds like your parents make enough that you may not receive aid, but even so, you should double check.
That’s what happens when students get too attached to one school. They don’t research and shop around like they should. The most you can take out in student loans is $27k for the entire degree. The rest has to be paid for by your parents or co-signed over to you. I can say this, if you have to co-sign ANYTHING, you can’t afford it. Starting a career with $80-$100k in debt will squash you like a grape.
Did you apply to other schools? Affordable ones? If not, then you’re not alone. That’s why schools have spring semesters. You can work and save up some money, or you can do community college for a semester and transfer to an affordable school.
