payment issue?

i submitted my ED app on october 31 using the jhu online application. however, when i clicked payment it said that the system was down and that submitting the payment later would not affect my application. i paid it on nov3 but the payment message said that payment must be submitted on or before the application deadline or else the app will not be processed. is my ED app still okay at this point even though i turned in my payment late?

This has already been addressed just a few threads down:

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/johns-hopkins-university/409890-early-decision-application-submission-error.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/johns-hopkins-university/409890-early-decision-application-submission-error.html</a></p>

I think the earlier thread doesn't quite answer symphonyofs0und's question, because the message that was posted on the online payment processor webpage on October 30 and 31 is not really consistent with the current message on the issue of whether a late payment will affect the processing of Early Decision applications.

The message that was viewable on October 30 and 31 said in part: "The online payment system is undergoing an upgrade this week and will not be available before the Early Decision deadline on November 1. We anticipate that the system will be restored within a week. If you are applying Early Decision, your lack of payment due to this system maintenance will not affect the processing and reading of your application."

I think it would be fair for people reading that to make a note to check back sometime soon after November 1, as symphonyofs0und apparently did. However, the current message says "Application fees are non-fundable and must be received by the stated application deadline." (Emphasis added.) This new message has been online since November 1, so apparently the upgrade took less time than anticipated.

Maybe the message should be revised to convey that Early Decision applicants who had tried to pay online before the application deadline, and who had viewed the statement saying that the online payment system would not be available until after November 1, do not have a reason to worry that their payment is late. Would that be an accurate statement?

The message currently on our site is not directed at ED applicants because the application deadline has passed. It is directed to RD applicants and the emphasis should be added regarding the application deadline.

As I stated in my previous message,

"If you are applying Early Decision, your lack of payment due to this system maintenance will not affect the processing and reading of your application. You may wait until the system is back online to submit your payment."

This is the same message we have been stating to any ED student who attempted to pay the app. fee while our system was down. That message remains true even though it does not state it on the web site currently.

More importantly, these issues should be asked by calling the Admissions Office, not addressing them on College Confidential. In this case, there are less than 50 students impacted by the problem that existed last week with payments. We can not create general messages on our Application Instructions to address the concerns of such a small population ... we expect that they will contact us and we can discuss these issues on an individual basis.

But ultimately, because of the system being down, we will be accepting app. fees for ED students late and this will not impact their applications.

thank you for clearing that up.
