PC or Mac for Physics and Math Major??

Hello everyone! I am looking for a new computer for college, and I intend to major in physics and math. However, I have been having trouble deciding between a PC and a Mac. My ideal budget is under 2k for a system that will last all four years. I am leaning towards a Mac because of the longevity and overall stability of the system, but would a PC be a better choice going into these fields? I'm not super aware of what software would be required. I am not a heavy gamer, but I do enjoy playing video games once in a while if that is a factor. I also am quite into code, and I would definitely like to improve and expand my abilities. In the past, I have only ever coded on a PC. However, I found software like Matlab and Xcode is available for Macs. But would the more customizable and open nature of a PC be better to get into higher level code? Thanks all for your time and suggestions!

I’m entering college in the same field actually. From what I’ve heard, it’s good to use Linux because apparently a lot of research projects will be run on that OS. So getting used to it is helpful. So assuming that’s true I’de go PC for cost reasons and then just replace the OS with a Linux varrient.

That sounds like a great solution! I have heard similar opinions as well. Thanks for your help!
