I'm a new student at Westmoreland CCC this spring, I haven't been to school at all since I graduated high school. I filled out my FAFSA a few days ago and once processed was informed that I had an EFC of 0.

Since I am only taking 12 credits (half a school year) but still a full-time student, will I still receive the full $5,500 amount for the Pell Grant or will it be cut in half since I am only actually attending half the normal amount of classes for a typical academic year?

It just poses a problem as my tuition will be around $2,500 (out of county), not including about $300-400 in books and supplies. Possibly a laptop.

Any info or related experience would be welcomed!

Yeah I just found this out through extensive google searches…

Kind of a bummer, I don’t think I would qualify for any loans, or at least my parent’s credit wouldn’t. I suppose in the fall I will be able to receive state aid but now things don’t look good for spring, this is easily going to cost over $2,700.

You are eligible to receive Stafford loans. If you are a freshman, you are eligible for $5500 per year. Between your Pell and loan, you should be able to cover your costs. Best of luck to you!

It doesn’t sound like you will be short very much after the $2750 pell. You could potentially cut costs by trying to buy used textbooks, and the school should have a computer lab, so you might not absolutely need a laptop right away.

If you will be working a part-time job while attending school, that might be enough to cover the difference.
