applying to SEAS. hoping for biomedical engineering, since its top 5 at Penn. Anybody else in here doing the same?

If I live in Philadelphia but go to school outside of the state of Pennsylvania, do you think I will receive the benefit that most Philadelphia area students have?

I am doing an internship at Penn and a lot of the kids here are applying to Penn basically as a match school because most (more than 50%) of the kids who apply from their schools (all in the Philadelphia area)
are accepted. Based on what I have seen from college confidential, some of the kids who get in to Penn from Philly have a weaker resume than the average person who is accepted.

I go to school that has a prestige on par, if not greater, than the best schools in the Philadelphia area. However, I have lived in Philadelphia for 3 years (I come for summer vacation and school breaks), ever since my sibling began pursuing a medical degree at Penn. Therefore, I know the city well and I know the campus really well. Finally, I know a lot of kids who are going to Penn next year because I am doing a summer program that sends some kids to Penn every year.

So, will the admission committee give weight to the fact that I am sorta-kinda a Philadelphia student, or will I have to show that in my Penn Supplement essay? (I wanted to talk about some research that I really enjoy)

Wharton ED.

Wharton ED tambien :)

hwpan888, i don’t think so. i think the purpose of the leeway they give Philly students is to support Philly schools and the Philly community (those who consistently attend school there and are integrated fully into Philly aka live there).

There’s no harm in mentioning it, but i’m %99.99 sure it won’t help you. any help they would give you, would come from the address of your school (located in philly) and as you don’t go to school in philly, it most likely won’t help at all. :/

meh… that sucks. Well, I mean a lot the kids who I talk to live in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia and go to school in Bryn Mawr and Chester (don’t know if you know about these cities)

Esta bien. If Penn wants people who are fully integrated in the Philly way of living, I guess I’ll just show that in my essays. I have been working in a lab this summer, and applying ED can’t hurt.

M&T ED with Wharton ED as my backup :)

Whoa whoa whoa, was there a quarrel between Jersey13 and silverturtle? SCANDALOUS

^ No, it was an inside joke.

Oh. Mkay. I thought a fight between you two would be odd, considering most CCers clump you both together as twins.

^ I was not aware of that clumping.

Cas ed yeayeayea!

CAS ED!
Who here has started their application/essays?
