Penn Econ vs. Michigan Ross vs. Vanderbilt Econ vs. Northwestern Econ

First, have you looked at all 8 years of data? And have you looked at CAS majors other than Econ? That should give a more comprehensive picture.

And second, without knowing the specific job and career goals of most Penn Econ majors, there really isn’t sufficient evidence to support this statement:

That sounds like a statement that would apply more to Wharton undergrads than to CAS Econ majors. And despite what is sometimes expressed here on CC (and I don’t mean by you ;)), Penn CAS Econ majors are NOT simply pale imitations of Wharton undergrads.

Well, in fairness, I can’t speak for IBanks and MC firms in that regard. I’m sure that some recruiters do come to Penn specifically seeking Wharton students, but my point was that PENN does not screen students by school, and that ALL Penn undergraduates have equal access to the unified Career Services office and all of the undergraduate recruiters that come to Penn. And CAS students accordingly have access to on-campus recruiting opportunities that they otherwise wouldn’t have had without the presence of Wharton (as many CAS students, grads, and parents have expressed here on CC).

AND, CAS students can take Wharton courses, and identify them as such on their resumes. [I added that for my friends beyphy and warblersrule. ;)]

Wharton students don’t get to chant Hail to the Victors, with 115,109 people in the Big House, while taking down Notre Dame.

How could you pass that up?

Not every student cares about college football and Wharton students are more focused on securing the most elite jobs possible.

While Ross is well recuited, Penn is in my experience perhaps the most targeted university in the world for consulting and finance. As 45 Percenter has states, Penn CAS students have access to the same employers that recruit at Wharton.

Besides i-banking, the field of “finance” covers Trading (Securities) which is just as sought after as IBD. Outside of MBB, there are a number of other consulting firms like LEK, Oliver Wyman, Deloitte, Parthenon, Booz, AT Kearney, etc. Penn is the only school here that every single one of these employers recruit at.

Northwestern’s MMSS might be a more “safe” option than Penn CAS hower.
