im a bit skeptical but i guess it kind of makes sense since last year was such a ridiculous increase (20%) and there has been a lot of talk against early decision because of the actions of Harvard/Princeton.

yeah, mandy....this better be true but i'm starting to really doubt it...

i forwarded the email to 3 cc members if any1 else is interested message me.

Mandy could you ask your brother for a link. Im not doubting you its just that it would be nice to see it on the real page.

Does this benefit anyone except Asians? I'm Caucasian. =(

He probably pulled it out of a bloomberg terminal. If that is the case (which is most likely is) then you can't just link it. I will have access to one tomorrow and can search for it then.

i was one of the members she forwarded it too..besides an actual link, yes the op did recieve an email from someone with the exact story she put in this thread...i guess the op is telling the truth...i still cant believe it...less asians??? what!! lol i would of never thought it could be less asians

mwahaha stupid asians - more room for meee!!!

:) j.k.

Ok, let's try to analyze this:

If there was a major decrease in Asians, that means there must've been an increase of other ethnicities. The article mentions Black applicants increased. Do you think maybe there was a big increase in Caucasians or Hispanics??

There might even be a big difference among the schools. CAS could've gotten alot of the applicants, or Wharton (more likely) could've got more of the applicants. I hope the dailypennsylvanian will release the numbers for the individual schools. All I need is the number of early applicants applying to Wharton, because I know they usually take about 200 Wharton applicants early.

I'm thirsty for more numbers!!!

WELL THIS IS GREAT...and IT SUCKS!

I'm Indian...(so south asian)

but

NC had record application rates.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! And I applied to wharton with subpar SAT scores :(

so im asian... how does this help me?

first off this helps us all since everyone with good common sense should have been expecting an increase of atleast 5 to 10 percent due to recent trends.
asians are helped if the drop is as significant as the article makes it out to be, because less competition or rather the same level of competition as last year. Since everyone always expects an increase in apps, thus an increase in competition in this century of admissions insanity, keeping the status quo or something less than that always helps.

Well, if you're Asian, and Penn wants the same % of Asians at Penn, they'll have to accept a larger % of the smaller number of Asian applicants.
I think that makes sense...

So, does this 2.5% decrease benefit anyone except Asians? Does it benefit everyone, just not as much as Asians?

Confused kinda.

Record numbers from Ohio--OH NO!

Yay: NOT a record number from New York, so NY applicants must've went down... Too bad I'm not an Asian NYer.

man, i hope SEAS got a large chunk of the missing applicants ... as thats where i applied :)

but yea, im indian, so i suppose this is good news.

very happy about the news, good job!

im curious about long island statistics

Can anyone please post the actual link? Why is this not on bloomberg's site?

Ditto, I'm from Long Island...

I wonder if Wharton got a larger percentage of early applications. I feel like a larger percentage of kids on CC applied to Wharton than the actual percentage... Maybe cause kids on here are so genius.

I'm still shocked!! What are the chances? Asians decreased....

Anyway, if the article doesn't mention your state, that doesn't mean that the number of apps. decreased from that state, it simply means the number of apps. from that state are consistent from previous years... There have only been a MAJOR increase in the states mentioned.
