So I have two core subject teachers writing me letters of recommendation because a lot of schools require two letters from core subject teachers, but I also have a teacher in my school’s business department writing me a letter of recommendation because she’s the advisor for a club I’ve been super active in throughout high school and she knows me the best out of any of my teachers. On Penn’s website though it says that if a student chooses to send in a third letter they “strongly recommend” the letter is not from another teacher. Is it going to look like I’m not following directions/will this hurt me? I feel my application won’t be complete without a letter from this teacher since the club is something I’ve devoted so much time to over the years (it’s FBLA and I’m a state officer, chapter officer, award winner, etc.).
Nobody can guarantee how any given admission officer will view any given LOR – IMO it will come down to how the letter is written and what the focus of the letter is. I would think that if the teacher identifies him/herself as a club advisor and writes the letter solely based on traits/characteristics/growth/leadership etc. you have displayed as a club member (and doesn’t discuss academics at all) that it should be fine.
mine is the same condition…I devoted a bulk of time for my clubs at senior class
my advisor asked me what she should include…like I have to teach her what to write in the recommendation letter. I just said to write how you felt I worked and she said she will.
Yeah, don’t have the third recommender talk about you as a student in the classroom. Focus purely on EC-related accomplishments.
