That is a very early notification.

No direct admits at Penn to CS

FYI - there are NO direct admits at Penn State to computer science. The acceptance says “an intended major” of CS. Almost all majors at Penn State work the same way in that students come in as pre-major in their college of choice and then work on entry to major requirements in order to get into the major. For CS those requirements will be:

  • 29-55 graded Penn State credits (excludes transfer and AP credits)
  • completed with a grade of C or better:
    CMPSC 121 or CMPSC 131
    CMPSC 122 or CMPSC 132
    MATH 140
    MATH 141
    PHYS 211
  • earned a minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.10

Are there any majors that nobody starts at the main campus?

Yup. The email came today. It was very clear about the process. Refreshingly clear. But still a long time to wait!

Yes, still a wait but I rather know then the wait and see. Good luck :four_leaf_clover:

There are majors that are only at some of the commonwealth campuses so you can only go to the commonwealth campus for those programs. But, in general, every major that is at UP campus can be started at a commonwealth and completed at UP campus.

Is there a list of these majors on the PS website? I am trying to find out if Film Production is a 2+2 only. My DD picked Berks as a 2nd choice and didn’t know much about the campus. Now doing the due diligence as it has become reality.

Thanks! “Start at any campus” means main campus or satellite.

Yes, that’s correct.

I don’t think there are any majors that are 2+2 only. The majors that can’t be completed at main campus can be completed in their entirety at certain commonwealth campuses. Of course, a student who starts at one commonwealth campus might have to go to another commonwealth campus if he/she decides on a specific major not offered at the first commonwealth campus or main campus.

Thanks, this is helpful.

Film Production can be a 2+2 or all four years at UP. As noted by others, there really aren’t any majors that are only 2+2. There are majors that are only at the commonwealth campuses where you’d stay there all 4 years, or majors that you can start at commonwealth and complete at UP (2+2) or majors that only start at UP. But not any that are only 2+2.

Thank you. This answer is helpful.

So what is the news in the Penn State world? My D just received a Dean’s scholarship from CEMS, it’s for one year. I think she is considering staying closer to home, she was accepted to a Big 10 nearby. That might make the most economical sense.

Did anyone else get any notifications from Penn State today?

My son also received a notification from EMS about a Dean’s scholarship.
