So I submitted my application through common app. You are later given a portal for PSU. Once you log in there will be a little tab on the left that states “Schreyer Honors College application”. You can submit that application on the portal.
Thank you! That’s great to know.
You’re welcome!
Does anyone know the acceptance rate for EA and Summer session. How many kids usually start summer?
Do you know if he should not select that he wants to apply to the honors college on the common app if he intends to submit the honors app through the portal?
I am not entirely sure. I don’t want to give you the wrong advice because I didn’t apply to the honors college. I just wanted to let you know there’s an option to submit the honors application after submitting the regular one on the portal. Im sorry!
No problem. I will call the university to confirm. Thank you!
The CommonApp asks, would you like to apply to the honors college now through the CommonApp, later, or not at all. So it seems you should select the middle option.
Got it. I must have missed that. Will go back and check. Thank you so much!
I don’t remember where I heard this, so pls take with a grain of salt, but I think 1/4 of freshman start in the summer. I remember being shocked at how high that was!
I am not 100% sure on this answer but my feeling is they do not convert. The ACT ranges are too wide to compare to SAT scores. I believe they look at the middle 50% for that specific test and decide accordingly.
For the competitive majors, you would want to be on the top or above that middle 50% range in order for it to make sense to submit test scores. Not submitting doesn’t hurt you. Submitting them may, depending on the score.
Okay, thank you!
Sorry, but I have another question. The common data set for 2022-23 says composite ACT mid 50% is 26-31. In this case I might have my daughter submit bc she would be considered on the higher end of this range (30). However, on the psu website (which says class of 2026 profile-which is start date 2022-23) it says the mid 50% is 28-33. If this is the case, the decision becomes a harder one. Which source would probably be the more accurate one-I assume the common data set?
The only difference is the first choice campus underlined in red. Not sure if that is the reason for higher scores.
The 22-23 admissions season (this past cycle) was for the class of 27. Maybe that accounts for the difference?
I must have been thinking that 2022 admissions meant class of 2026. My older daughter started in 2022 and will graduate 2026, so I automatically thought that the common data set from 2022-23, and the website showing the class of 2026 profile were referring to the same time period. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.
Your question says you are waiting on UP? Are you asking about the University of Pennsylvania or Penn State?
The higher number are those that applied and where admitted the CDS are those that actually enrolled. Penn State is a safety school for a lot of smart kids who end up going somewhere else. that is reflected in the numbers.
Per the CDS, PSU doesn’t consider essay/personal statement. So, why then on the PSU app, (not the common app) do they ask for a personal statement? Same with activities…why, if they don’t consider them?
The personal statement is different than an admission essay (which is optional on the common app)
Penn State admissions is notoriously mysterious. There is no obvious rhyme or reason as to when decisions are released or in what order etc…
I would say that these items are used when an applicant is borderline and the decision could go either way. But again, that’s just a guess because you are correct - the CDS states that EC’s are not considered.
