My son just submitted his app (Common App) yesterday. Received his portal log-in instructions email today. He is logged into the portal and the SRAR section on the menu says “Self Reported Academic Record (not required)” and it isn’t linked. The items underneath that on the menu ARE linked (ie Honors application, test optional etc). Will the SRAR link become active at some point? Is that normal/has it happened to others? Thanks!
Nevermind! He refreshed after an hour and the link is now working!

unweighted GPA is 3.6. Lots of EC. Not submitting tests scores. Applying to nursing. Should she have applied to DUS???
AP Physics, AP Biology, AP chemistry, Calculus and Honors A&P, honors Psychology
@leeny425 If she wants nursing, you MUST apply incoming freshman. Nursing is one of the few direct entry programs.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but nursing is also one of the most competitive majors at UP. (if not THE most competitive). Expect her to be re-directed to Altoona with a 3.6.
You had answered my questions earlier about my daughter applying to College of Education with a 4.27 GPA with 3 Honors courses, 1 AP course, and a 30 ACT score- (at my initial inquiry my daughter had 3 honors courses and 1 AP, but then changed her schedule). You had replied that you think she should be fine. Her schedule has since changed and she now only has 2 honors courses, and she is really confused as to keep her scores submitted or to go TO since a 30 is on the low end of the 29-33 ACT range shown on website. Any input or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
What does one TRULY need for acceptance into PSU nursing? Do all high stat kids w excellent and related/healthcare ecs get accepted? Or does it end up being completely random? Thx!
@calm - I think that is a tough call. I will share a few data points that I think might be relevant.
- Education, as a college, is easier to get into than other colleges/majors.
- However, they have had people transfer out almost immediately at NSO and so (I would expect) they will be paying more attention to consistency with intended major of Education. (what extra curriculars, summer jobs, “why education?”, etc.)
- In general, people tend to assume that not submitting a test score means the score wasn’t great. Since she is in the general range (averages), I would probably be tempted to submit.
Maybe dig back a few years and see what ACT scores looked like before TO to give you a better clue?
@Larolesama1 I can’t answer that question, but I would guess that not all high stat kids with excellent/related ecs get accepted. If nothing else, because the program is small.
I don’t think it is completely random. They will be looking at “why Penn State?” … why nursing… etc. Not every kid is created equal, so the minute differences may play a larger part in the nursing acceptances. This is where the AP vs. the Honors Bio may make a difference - or the strong test score - or the ec or leadership.
A few years ago, they deferred every single nursing student from EA to a Feb. 1 decision (deadlines may have been different). There were many frustrated people, but clearly, Admissions needed to see the entire pool to figure out where/how to draw the line. Nursing really is its own process different from everyone else and I know less about their line and qualifications than I do about other majors.
Ok, thank you. I guess we all just wait and see…considering this year’s EA vs Rolling, do we expect a decision before Dec 24?
Its look like last decisions were rolled out Nov 9th.Is it going to be same time frame?
First, there is a new director of enrollment management, which may change things this year.
Based on historical trends, if your application was complete by Nov. 1, you should hear by Dec. 24. Remember, being deferred is a decision for some. If it is Dec. 15th and classmates have heard, but you have not, it means nothing.
There will be colleges that start rolling out some decisions early. Typically, those are the high stats kids who are an easy admit. Anyone closer to the magical “line” will hear closer to the Dec. 24 date.
And remember, that Smeal (business) and Engineering and DUS (and others) are not evaluated at the same time vs each other. Each college is evaluated within itself for admissions. So high stat kids from one college may hear before another college. And not all high stats kids will hear quickly. Sometimes, random truly is that.
according to their common data set, the “middle 50%” ACT score was 29. I would submit
I think that is what she is going to do. We have until tomorrow at midnight, correct?
CORRECT. PSU Nursing is “DIRECT ADMIT”. My S26 was accepted 2 years ago UPARK and with Naval ROTC. The BSN COHORT Program took 360 kids with just over 3800 applied.
His numbers
OOS Florida and Florida Bright Futures Scholar at 100%
National Merit Commended Scholar
1350 SAT
3.76 UW GPA
He also had Statitiscis and Anatomy & Physiology Duel Enrollment, These 2 absolutely put him over the top because they are required for Nursing.
For my S26 for Nursing, he got his acceptance on Dec 3, 2021. All of the 360 accepted got theirs at the same time.
That is good information to know. I didn’t realize they went out so early!
I remember a few years ago when all nursing kids were deferred - many unhappy kids to have to wait longer. That may have been the first year of EA-
