Do anyone know about the forensic science at Penn State? Is it good? I was accepted as a forensic science major at the University Park.
Biochemistry and forensic science, which one is better?
Forensic Science at Penn State has a very good reputation. It is ranked in the top 10 forensic science programs in the country. As far as what to major in, it depends on what your after college goals are. That may be a question for an advisor.
What are your goals?
Is Penn state affordable (without your parents taking loans for you)?
Where elder have you been admitted and what would be your net cost there?
@MYOS1634 I’m not quite sure what to do after graduation. I will apply to pharmacy schools. If I can’t get in, I would be a lab scientist or go to graduate school.
As an OOS, my tuition would be about 32k, which is similar to my current school. I haven’t got my financial aid package yet, but I think I would get at least 5k grant aid.
I have applied to other schools, and I need to wait until April to know the decisions.
As a current freshman majoring in Forensic Science (Chem Option), I can say that I am very happy with the decision I made. The FRNSC program at PSU is very good, and there are plenty of resources here for help finding a career path for your degree. The classes can be very challenging sometimes, but they’re not impossible as long as you really like science and have a decent math background. There’s even an SLO for you to live with other people in your major, pretty sure it’s in Pollock. If you have any other questions, lmk!
unless you plan to practice FS, Biochemistry or Biotech would be a better option. From what you describe, you do not plan to. FS is specialized toward the application of FS after graduation. You will take a broader, better rounded curriculum in the other two, which will appeal more to grad schools and laboratories that you are seeking employment. For example, FS majors do not take the biochem and molecular biology labs the other majors do. The lab courses makes BMB majors highly attractive to grad schools and industry. FS majors take some of the same introductory courses as BMB majors (its run out of BMB), so you can make the final decision once on campus.
