Penn State OOS

I have wondered:

  1. If Penn state is worth the OOS cost (sticker price)
  2. How many OOS students attend Penn state
3.Could a student attend Penn state during the year and then to save on cost during the summer take class es at my local community college or Uconn.
My situation is I will be able to afford Penn state but I will probably take loans. I really love Penn State but idk if I could justify spending 47k each year.
  1. Depends on your budget. If you have to take out a lot of loans to go, no. If your family can easily pay the cost of attendance, maybe.
  2. 38% oos students at University Park (http://admissions.psu.edu/apply/statistics/)
  3. Yes, but it's not going to save you that much money, if any at all. You probably won't be able to take enough summer classes to shave off an entire semester or year from your plan; you'll likely only be able to do it early in your college career, as upper level classes won't be offered at a CC; and you may want to reserve your summers for other things, like working a job or internship or volunteering.

Besides, Penn State, what are your other options?

@junkpix University of Connecticut which I would have instate tuition for, Umass (main), WVU…

I’ll give you my perspective. We are CT residents. My son was admitted to both UCONN and Penn State. Two very good schools. Anyway, he chose to attend Penn State and absolutely loves it and wouldn’t change a thing. Two years in, however, I do have moments of regret for not insisting on UCONN. We’ve been able to finance his PSU education w/out loans and he starts his 3rd year in the fall. However, if he decides grad school is in his future, I now think the smarter move would have been to do undergrad courses in-state which would leave more possibilities open to him financially when and if grad school rolls around. That said Happy Valley puts a smile on my face every time I’m there. Good Luck with your choice.
