Having a hard time with this decision. Academics/cost being equal, I’m really looking for insight and opinions on culture, things to do on campus, level of student interaction/involvement, dorm life, etc. These colleges seem to be so similar, making a choice is causing some heartburn. Appreciate any insight.
Ohio State has slightly better football and much better basketball.
“cost being equal”
Looking at just the title of this thread, I was going to say “both very good, follow the money”. If the cost is the same, it seems to come down to what you want to do.
Would the cost be different in the unlikely chance that it took five years to graduate, or summer school was needed? As one example, one daughter has done summer school to cover additional requirements for a double major, and my other daughter is considering summer school just because there is an interesting and useful course she wants to take.
Intended major might make a difference as would in-state versus non-resident tuition.
Penn State is #1 in wrestling & should stay at that position for several years.
Also depends upon whether you are in the Honors College/Program at either school.
Both are large enough to find whatever you want except for a nearby ocean (Great Lakes don’t count).
Cant speak for Penn State, but Columbus is a city with things to do. We are OOS and just spent the weekend there with my daughter. We both loved the fact that there is plenty of places to eat, shop, and visit. In our initial college search, she was very much drawn to a typical College Town, but after taking a few trips to Columbus, she now likes the idea of having much more to do without losing the feel of a being in a College town. Ohio State is somewhat of an area of its own but plenty to do all around. Penn State also seems to be a little more isolated. Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indianapolis, are all within a few hours drive. Make sure you compare strength of programs. I hope this helps.
Choose PSU for the ice cream.
Look at costs, including transportation, meal plan, various types of dorm.
Did you get into the honors college (/apply)?
What major?
Are you instate for either one?
Based on past posts, architecture is the program of interest.
Penn State’s program leads to licensure.
Ohio State’s program, on the other hand, seems to require further education at the graduate level.
Im deciding between Penn State and Michigan State. I totally feel the stress. I am leaning toward PSU during my visit there was an amazing amount of school spirit. I can’t speak to OSU, but PSU’s alumni network is quite impressive. There alumni mentor program is a great program. You really can’t go wrong at either of these schools
Yes totally got the difference in Arch programs and good point about paying for the extra year. I’m looking for insight into things only those more familiar can identify. The culture and vibe. Thanks for all of your comments they really helpful. @Eeyore123 @Publisher I see you commented but for some reason your comments are removed or blocked? Site says I don’t have permission to access them…
Well, we, or at least I, were trying to make your decision for you based on ice hockey stature.
