I got in to Penn state, Purdue and Arizona. I’m still waiting for Ohio State. I’m out of state for all. Prospective business major. My criteria: Academic reputation, Social life, Campus and employability.
Which one of these comes out on top considering the following factors?
Did you get any financial aid to any of these schools? What are their costs?
Social life and campus are subjective factors - they’re going to be based on your own personal preferences. Purdue and Penn State are both in small college towns. Arizona and Ohio State are both in large (but not gigantic) cities. Arizona’s going to be warm most of the year, while the other three will get snow and cold weather. All have great academic reputations.
Penn State and Ohio State’s business schools probably have the best reputation out of the four (rankings really depend on which ranking you’re looking at, but they’re not too far apart). Purdue and Arizona have solid business offerings. Recruiting at Smeal is great. I’m not familiar with the other universities, but I’m sure they’ve got good recruiting as well.
No financial aid. Weather not a very big concern.
Do you have a direct admit to the busienss school at each university?
Yup. I haven’t heard back from Ohio State tho
Got wait listed by Ohio State. I’ll be accepting either Penn State (UP) or Purdue’s offer. Really confused between both of them. Really similar in terms of rankings of the business programs, cost, weather, as well as location. Are there any reasons I should consider one over the other?
@VardaanMehra If you got into Smeal direct admit, take it. It’s business program and career center are superior to Purdue and Arizona. If you had said you were an engineer I would say Purdue. But for business and all around full college experience --and each of the factors you listed in your first post above, you cannot compare Penn State vs Purdue or Arizona. Unless you have other reasons for choosing Purdue or Arizona, such as cost, location (are you from Indiana or Arizona?) I think this decision is a no-brainer. Had you gotten into Ohio State’s Fisher College of Business or are chosen from the waitlist, then your decision would be a lot tougher, in my opinion.
go penn state. Better b school, social life, and in my opinion, tradition.
I am out of state for all,so the cost is pretty much the same. I would prefer a warmer place, but it’s not that important of a factor to me. I’m just looking for the best possible overall experience.
Your other threads indicate that you’re from India. Are employers there familiar with any of these schools? If they seem to prefer one over the others, I’d probably choose that. Otherwise, I’d pick the program you like best.
I guess their reputation is pretty much the same here.
Just when I had almost made up my mind on Penn State, Arizona State came in with a 7000 $ pa scholarship. My counselor suggests me ASU over Penn State in this scenario, but I am not sure if ASU is on the same level as Penn State.
