<p>Harvard legacy from his father will definitely help. Knowing several ex-students is no help at all. I don't think the president of Harvard interferes with admissions, but I couldn't guarantee what goes on behind closed doors. So I'd say he has some modest advantages here, but he's no sure thing.</p>

<p>I'm sure that the president COULD get a kid in if he wanted to, but that doesn't mean he is willing to throw his weight around like that. My hunch is that we'd have to be talking about a very dear old childhood friend or close relative, and a kid who was at least waitlist material on his own merits. I'm sure administrators at every selective school are bombarded with such requests.</p>
