My OOS Son was admitted for Fall 2021! We are very excited!
Late to the thread but wanted to share that they actually told us they were going to use ACT/SAT scores for Regent’s Scholarship purposes back in Sept/Oct—then, at the last moment, decided they would not use them. For us, this felt so dishonest. my d had already taken once and got 1410. Pepp told us she needed to get above 1420 and she would be a lock for Regents. She re-took, got a 1460, they said she was a lock—then went on to deny her Regents because they decided not to take into account standardized tests. Huge deception at the expense of my daughter and her mental health. Disappointing to say the least. Then later denied her a Church of Christ scholarship even though we are COC. Stats are 4.2, 1460, good essays, EC’s, service hours, varsity swim, NHS, etc Baylor offered Honors College and more money. We live in OK.
I completely understand your frustration and agree that it was deceptive and handled terribly. My daughter with a 35 ACT and UW 4.0 was told she would definitely receive the Regents Scholarship. But…Congratulations to your daughter on her Baylor scholarship admission to the Honors College!!! Have you visited Baylor? We absolutely fell in love with Baylor when we visited in September, and it quickly became my daughter’s first choice. Like your daughter, my daughter received a generous Baylor scholarship and admission to the Honors College. She plans to live in the Honors Residential College and participate in the University Scholars program. After our visit, she would have chosen Baylor even if Pepp had given her the Regents Scholarship. All the very best to your daughter!
Q? Does anyone have info about the theatre department? I am wondering if it is possible to participate/audition for the musicals if it is not your major? Thanks for any info you may have!
- dorm is Guaranteed for 4 years? 2. what is the average apartment rent outside of the school?
Pepperdine Student Players is open to all majors. Not sure on Improv Troupe. Both are student-run (with professional instructors for Improv). IT has an audition, not sure on SP.
Main stage performances? Dk if other majors can audition.
Dorms are guaranteed for first two years. However, many students go abroad their second year. Lottery system for upperclassman dorms.
Pepperdine it is afterall!
The fire safety plan is excellent.
And frankly, although the merit was much higher at some - comparable at others - there were schools charging about the same where she was admitted. (One of these totals, it could be said, has virtually zero to do with the location or amenities).
She is very happy with this decision. She got on plenty of zooms and talked to people she knows with Pepperdine experience. Believes it will be a great balance of nice people throughout, growing diversity, outdoor activity (even more important these days), and academic excellence. She likes that it is a Christian university that treats everyone well and encourages all-around growth. She wouldn’t go if it were any other way.
I’m not sure if sharing stats is more of a negative or positive (both?) for students but she has around a 3.9 uw. …Creative projects, deep experience in a performing art, international service experience, plenty of volunteerism, some leadership, a lot of honors classes, 1 AP, 4 years difficult foreign language. If you are considering Pepperdine, I’d say focus on character, what kind of experience you want to have, and who you want to become not only as a professional but also a person in adulthood - in the application and decision process.
Test opt.
Just FYI for people not getting the scholarship they wanted. There was a change at my daughter’s school that we thought would impact her possibly receiving the Regent’s Scholarship. We wrote an email explaining what happened in May, after final decisions by students were made, and they granted her the Regent’s Scholarship. I read else where that they will at times make changes with scholarship/aid after the May 1 final decision day. Maybe after they get all the final decisions, that can make adjustments with scholarships?
