Pepperdine, LMU, and USD

Well I have visited Pepperdine and LMU, and I plan to visit USD sometime in the near future. I'm a junior, and I'm really interested in these schools. Pepperdine and LMU seemed to be basically the same school, and I'm assuming USD is really similar as well.

My problem, is that, these schools are equally great, and I can't figure out which one would be better for me.

So if anyone of you can offer your opinion of any of these school, or better yet, compare them, I would be extremely thankful.

For my college, here is the list of things I'm looking for.

Academics: I plan to major in business or communications, and eventually work for a company in the entertainment industry.

Athletics: I want D1 athletics, and school spirit is a must. Football would be great, but I'd get over it.

Campus: It better be amazing...Ocean views, and spotless. Small enough to walk across campus in about 15min, yet be large enough, so that it doesn't feel confining.

Social Life: I want to have an amazing experience, and a very active social life is a necessity. Also Greek Life is something I'm interested in.

Student Body: Happy, outgoing, friendly, knows how to have a good time, and easy to look at :)

Housing/Food: I'm not going to be picky on dorms, because I'll get used to it. As for food that is a different story. There has to be a good supply of whatever I'm feeling for.

Weather: Has to be perfect. Ranging from 66-83 degrees year round. It has to be sunny with a light breeze. And the occasional rain is welcomed.

Any thoughts?

no football at LMU and Pepperdine

all 3 campuses are great

school spirit would prob be usd

Pepp is extremely strict so the social life if u go there will prob take place in LA which is a pain to get to from malibu

id say USD

heey i visited LMU and Pepperdine both just last week :)

i liked LMU the most, probably because it's location is basically perfect, it's not as strict, and they have more people with a littleee more diversity [although both schools had some hott people]

I guess it depends on what you're interested in. Pepp has a better international program, lmu is slightly more diverse in course options and requirements. i'm looking at business and I liked it more at LMU.

but yea, pepp seemed way strict for me. i mean no people of the opposite sex in your dorm room past 1? dry campus? no parties? gaahh. and it's a bit too secluded, it would be annoying to drive an hour every day just to get to a company you're interning at [assuming it would be in LA]

I'd definitely go with USD.

Good business school, d1 athletics (and they have the #1 non-scholarship football team in the country), great weather, beautiful campus....what else would you want?

Thanks for the opinions.

Right now, my favorite is definitely LMU.

However, I would still like to hear more about USD. Pepperdine is starting to decline, because I was worried about the strictness, the no tolerance policy, and the secluded location.

But LMU is my new favorite school...just after UMiami and UCSB.

He WestCoast... .dont forget about USDs 17th ranked baseball team in the country......

ya thats 17th.... higher than asu and other powerhouses...... they have teh 6th ranked recruiting class in the country for class of 07

they almost swept texas

Yeah that's true....USD has a really good baseball team!

Hey SoCal18 what happened to U of miami?
I would Say , pepperdine and USD...

Dont let the strictness of pepperdine fool you, my D parties plenty! They have an amazing international program, including a business program in China...check it out on the website. #1 men's volleyball team...trouble with basketball this year, but great potential with coach Walberg. Beat LMU both meetings this year! Pepperdine baseball # 19 beat #11 Witchita 2 of 3 this week. Tennis team were national champs 2005/2006. I go to LMU...more admin problems. Excellent admin at Pepperdine, everyone is helpful. Lmu a little bigger feel. Pepperdine campus much more amazing. I had 2 siblings go to LMU both transferred out, not as welcoming. I prefer the Jesuit philosophy over the church of Christ, but that is my Catholic preference. Both have very helpful professors. Pepperdine business dept strong and a grad program, good business connections...Communication at LMU has a good rep. Good looking people at both campuses, greek at both campuses. Need a car for either campus and getting to Hollywood, Santa Monica and westwood pretty balanced from either campus.Beaches by Pepperdine, much better! Manhattan beach and Hermosa, near LMU nice and good atmosphere.

I would definitely look at your financial aid offer from all the schools, that may be your deciding factor!

As far as getting in...they are not predictable I know kids who got into one and not the other and visa versa.
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I really loved Pepperdine when I visited it, but I hear all this negativity on Pepperdine's lack of social life and the no tolerance policy, and I start to have second thoughts. But I will definitely keep Pepperdine on my list and wait to see if I can even get in.

However, LMU still seems like the best of three. As the days go by, I continue to realize how great LMU really is.

If you actually do get in to USD, I don't know why you would choose either Pepperdine or LMU over it.

well for a person interested on the entertainment industry i thibk L.A would be a better setting than San Diego.
Hey SOCAL what about chapman university?
http://ftv.chapman.edu/about/quick_facts.cfm

I've looked into Chapman, and I'm not really interested.

And WestCoast101, LMU seems to be the better overall school, but I appreciate the input.

ok..but i feel the need to say be VERY careful with LMU....what about USC?Did you get reject by UM?

I'm only a junior, like it says in all of my posts, but I'm just trying to organize my list because I'm applying to schools in 5 months.

Right now my list is as follows:

UMiami

UCSB

LMU

Pepperdine

USD

SDSU

ASU

"And WestCoast101, LMU seems to be the better overall school, but I appreciate the input."

LMU is better for communications (seeming it is in LA), and if you know that's what you want to major in, then go there. LMU is not the better overall school though.

"1. UMiami
2. UCSB
3. LMU
4. Pepperdine
5. USD
6. SDSU
7. ASU"

No USC??SDSU and ASU??
what's your stats?

GPA: 3.5 UW - 3.75W
PSAT: Predicted 1280 (I didn't study), but I'm hoping for a 1350.
RANK: Top 5-10% out of around 650 students

AP/Honors Classes: HL Pre-Calc, AP Calc, AP US, AP Eng, HL Chem, HL Span 3, AP Eng, AP Stats, AP Gov/Econ

EC's/Community Service/Awards: Tennis, CSF, Foreign Foods Club (VP), Journalism (Focus Editor), Early Academic Outreach Program, Relay 4 Life, Key Club (VP), Random Acts of Kindness Club, Conservation Club, Certificate of Scholastic Achievement, Circle B Athletic Award, Block B Academic Letter, and "Most Consistent Player" - Tennis.

Also 2 immediate family members had/have cancer during my high school years. My essay topic is about Relay 4 Life....I will have done it for 5 yrs, and the team I'm on with my high school friends should have raised over 50k dollars.
