Also, note that as with all things BS, “it depends”. You’ll see 5 for 5s, 0 for 5s, 3 for 5, and so on…

My gut and what feels right for our family is 3-5. I would have capped it at 3, but the parents of current students kind of put the fear into me…and as I have always noted, our day school “back up” is no slouch in quality, reputation, and placement record.

There is a 2010 thread but you’ll have title search it. I don’t know why it’s not stickied and the old one is. Please don’t try to extrapolate too much from it. “results may vary”

2010hopeful - glad to see you have not given up - i believe that there is a BS for everyone. Now change your username to “2011definite” and get on with it! Have you identified the areas that you need to work on and perhaps come up with a few more schools?

@Madaket: Awwww. That was really nice. Thanks!!!

Over the summer I spent A LOT of time reflecting on the past application process and what I could possibly improve upon. I think it was a combination of many parts of the application which lead to my rejections. I’ve talked to a few of the schools I applied to last year and received some input from them. This year I am applying to a large range of schools (acceptance rates are from the low teens to nearly 50%). I am applying to a few boarding schools as a day student also. I have high hopes for this year. I had an amazing interview at a BS close to home that was originally a safety but now is pretty high up on my list. I’m just trying to have a positive attitude and I am not letting my “blunders” last year effect my dream of attending a boarding school.

My “low” SSAT score.
My nervousness throughout some interviews.
My bad essay writing skills.
My lack of extracurricular involvement.
Visiting off-campus for a school that is 30 minutes away from my house (there was a reason).
etc.
