I have maintained perfect attendance throughout high school, a string of consecutive days attended beginning when I was in 5th grade. I'm like the "Cal Ripken Jr." of my school. There are only 2 other students in my school who have perfect attendance, so it is pretty rare. Due to its rarity, I'm curious if it gives any advantage in the admissions process. Any opinions would be appreciated.

maybe you'll get an award for it. so do you go to school when you're sick and infect other people, or do you just have perfect health?

Yes, my school gives an award for it. I don't get sick that often, but I do sometimes go to school with a cold or some other benign illness just to keep the streak going. I once went in with bronchitis, but nothing really worse than that. As for me infecting people, I can't say that I do. When I do get sick, which doesn't happen that often, I usually contract soething form other people at school who are sick.

Colleges won't care in the least.

Also, I'm all for toughing things out and going to school even when one does not feel like it/when one is sick, but seriously! Take a break!

This is a big deal when it comes to employers though. This is a reason that you will show up for work everyday, which is a plus.

I think it probably would depend on the school and the major as to whether a school would care. For example: USMA probably cares more about something like that than, say, some small private school.

I have not missed school since the beginning of 6th grade. Most people miss more school in a year than I've missed in my entire life.

I had a classmate that hadn't missed a day of school in his life until his junior year in high school. Missed 5 days straight after being caught with alcohol at Homecoming!

If I were an adcom I'd think:

Man this kid never missed a day of school? Not even to take a break? What a loser! I don't want that boring geek in my shcool!

Thats probably why I'm not an adcom haha

sorry if i sounded mean ;)

Poor Attendance, does it matter? ;)

Honestly though, perfect attendance... eh, it probably wouldn't be worth anything.

It couldn't hurt...

I mean, good for you toughing it out, but I have a problem with people who are sick and go to school when they know they can (and probably will) get others sick. It seems kinda self-centered.

whats the point? i ve missed like 8 days school this year and it feels sooooooo good....why would u go to school when your sick? thwts soo icky

plus i hate those bastards that come to shcool coughing and infectig eeryone else

I don't think it would be an advantage. I had a pefect attendance last year. I didn't get anything for it. I decided to stay home twice so far this year.

Im sorry but perfect attendance is boring. I usually miss about 3 days a year, and in my senior year so far Ive already missed 4. Have fun you hermit.

its not like attendence is even listed on your transcript. if it were, i'd be screwed. i missed 12 days in one semester my freshman year because of volleyball qualifying tournaments all over the country.

Man, you people are harsh. I always thought of perfect attendance as being something worth recognition. At least you're honest. As for me being self-centered and nerdy, I can't say either is true. I am always willing to help someone in school who is genuinely in need of help. I am not one of the CC members who brags about their stats. I am also not that nerdy. Yes, I am in the Scholars Program at my high school which is the top academic group at my school. However, I am pretty down-to-earth, as are many of the other students in the program. Initially, I was worried that the kids would be arrogant and nerdy, but most of them aren't. They are all well-rounded and several are varsity athletes. In fact, we had a Scholars vs. Non-Scholars football game last year in gym that the Scholars won quite easily. It just goes to show that one can be smart and be athletic. I am actually playing football on Thanksgiving with my cousins. It has been a family tradition for years and I am hoping that my team wins.

i think its something to be proud of. it's definitely not something i could do (probably because of my 20+ absenses in the past 3.5 years). and thank you for not being the annoying person who brags about themself. they annoy me. good luck with your perfect attendence

I'm a pretty punctual student, but sometimes -- in rare, isolated cases -- I just GOTTA cut class. In almost every case it is because I need the time badly to study for something, or to work on a paper that is due soon.

You could say, I guess, the only reason I ever miss class is to keep my marks up.

I always get sick right before Christmas (yea, great timing, I know!) so I usually miss a day or two so I don't feel horrible for actual Christmas. Of course, thanks to field trips, I miss about a week of school overall and none of it is counted against me- so that's how I get off!

Volleyball0815, I am the same way. I always seem to get sick when I have a holiday off. Thankfully (no pun intended), I have not contracted any illnesses thus far for Thanksgiving. I have to be healthy for my family football game. It is a pretty big deal. It should be interesting because heavy rain and high wind gusts are expected for my hometown.

As for cutting classes, my school is pretty strict about it. For every class you cut you get 3 days detention. Therefore, I have never attempted it. I even have a teacher who gives 5 days detention for dress-code violations (stupid Catholic school rules).

There was an article in my local newspaper last year about a high school grad who hadn't missed a day of school since he had the flu in kindergarten. Although my attendance record isn't quite this good, my streak of days attended is still intact as of today.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

My friends went to school for 14 consecutive years. Yes, without any holiday.
His application to Guinness is under process for that.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic abhishiv. If you're not, congrats to your friends.

As for my family game, my team won by one touchdown. However, I wasn't really a factor because I dislocated my thumb in the middle of the game. I was able to pop it back into the socket (ouch!). I was really surprised that anyone scored due to the horrible weather.
