Permanent Squadrons

After the 4* year, how are the cadets’ permanent squadrons chosen? Can you request to be in a certain squad, say if you are a legacy or if you really fit in well with your 4* squadron? Do certain squadrons have reputations? For instance, I have heard that Might Mach One is really tough. When will one learn what squadron s/he’ll be assigned to? Thanks!

I heard they wait to see what the cadet's mother posts online as a tough squadron and put her cadet in that one. But I don't think they put brothers in the same squadron. Have you heard of any other tough squadrons? ;-)

Seriously though, I think the toughness of a squadron is likely to be set quite a bit by the Firsties of that squadron. And since that changes every year, I think the reputations of the squadron probably change a little, too.

You crack me up, RoleoMom! Actually, I read that either here or on the SA forums. I will have to ask my guys if that's what they've heard too.

We were told last year at Orientation that twins are always separated and not under the same "chain of command." So far, that's been true for mine.

I don't believe that a choice is really given. However; legacy is allowed. So, if a cadet's mom, dad, grandparent, etc... went to the academy, they could legacy into that squadron. But unless there's some major "problem" with going into a particular problem, the cadet goes to the squadron they are assigned. I could be wrong. Maybe one of our resident cadets can tell us if things have changed to the extent of allowing choices.

Legacies can go into their parent's squad.
Everyone else is at the mercy of the computer...

Some squadrons do have reputations, and some actually reflect them.
1, 3, 7, 24, 34, etc are more "hooah" about rankings/4 dig training than say 14 "Chiller Cobras."
I went from 14 to 3, and there definitely was a culture change.
