"Personalized" Accepted Students Day

Our S got an invitation to one of these. It’s on a school day, not the weekend like the others that were announced and includes a sitting in on a class. The skeptic in me suspects they invited all accepted students, but I wonder if they are targeting the higher scoring students. Our S is a B student, but he’s well above the middle 50% on SAT scores. Gimmick or not, he was willing to sign up for this one when he wasn’t interested in the accepted students days that were on weekends. Anyone believe they may actually showing some love to students they really want?

@mstomper

It goes both ways. They want your kid to love them.

My kid actually ran an accepted student program at her college. It was more individualized in that accepted students actually shadowed current students, attended classes in their area of interest, and also could spend the night. It was done on an individual basis…but was open to any accepted student.

Colleges want to showcase what they do.

Your son will hopefully have a terrific time!

I hope they are showing the love to all students and that they want them all to come because they accepted them all.

Does it really matter? You son likes this type of attention so the school’s focus is working for him.

@twoinanddone, you’re right; it got him to come back for a second visit. He was down when his first choice didn’t show him the money, so maybe this will help. They already had my wife and I convinced.

These programs are very useful. My D did one and getting to spend big chunks of her day with a tour guide in her anticipated major (including 2 visits to places she would spend time) were extremely helpful to her in deciding where to attend

Last week my daughter went to an accepted student program where she sat in a class required for her future major, had lunch with a student, and a small tour. Before acceptance we did mock student day which had a campus fair, tours, and a choose of two mock classes for parents/future student. The tour was just us and a tour guide so was very personalized. This is her first choice school and would be a definite but we are waiting on a financial aide appeal.
