Hello!
I’m a high school senior from a competitive Texas HS. I’ll be touring WPI/RPI in a few weeks and looking to apply to WPI, RPI, UPenn, C. Mines, and maybe some other schools.
I’ve talked to a few current students there who have had a great campus experience but curious to know how supportive students are of each other.
Thanks.
What do you mean by how supportive students are of each other?
Engineering students are hard working but typically not cutthroat.
I am the parent of an incoming freshman, class of 2021. Though this question would be better answered by a current student, I will try. I suggest that you look up some information on the WPI Plan. WPI’s approach to education is different from many other schools, and one important part of the plan is that it is project-based. Group projects are part of most classes as well as the qualifying projects junior and senior year. Speak to students on campus when you visit. One of the reasons my D chose WPI is the very positive and collaborative vibe she got on campus.
Good luck in your college search.
@OCNYmom is on target. These group activities get to root of an educational process which requires student co-operation. Check out the process at https://www.wpi.edu/academics/undergraduate/project-based-learning. Talk to the students.
@Emilybug My oldest graduated from WPI in 2016 and youngest is an incoming freshman. The collaborative atmosphere was a huge draw for both kids, each of whom turned down more selective schools to attend.
