I just wanted to hear people's thoughts on this. Nearly everybody in my school is claiming that with the results of the current election. That the petroleum industry will slow down tremendously and it will be much tougher landing a job, or even maintaining one. Much less an internship.

I am personally don't agree with this sentiment but i wanted to hear thoughts on the subject. Is the petroleum industry, and petroleum engineering in my case, really going to go downhill? Or is it just hype and propaganda?

I assume you are going to school in the South? Methinks most of these people think that industry in general will slow down tremendously in light of last night’s results. I wouldn’t read too much into it. In the past 4 years the petroleum industry hasn’t been hurt, so what would imply that this would change now?

Seems like major exaggeration to me. President Obama was in office in 2011 when I graduated, and the oil industry was hiring engineers (of all majors) hand over fist. I wouldn’t worry too much.

The government has minimal effect on the oil industry and gas prices, contrary to what most people seem to believe. Politicians use the “drill baby drill” strategy to get into office. In reality, its all dependent on the trends of the world oil market.

Bone you are correct in saying that my school is in the south. So i guess that plays a major part.
I overhear a multitude of things concerning certain companies and their predicted hiring rate for the next school year. I can only hope for the best.
