PGs Applying After Deadlines

I am curious about something. If part of the idea for post-grads is to use that 5th year to improve their chances for college, do most schools accept applications from PGs after the students hear back from colleges?

You should check with each school. FWIW - a couple of years ago someone posted information @ this on CC. Maybe someone else on here can help you find the thread. We do know someone who applied and went to an all-male school for PG and recall at that time the deadline was Feb 15. If you are a golfer, you can PM me @ PG programs at schools with later deadlines. Wishing you well. :bz

I really have no idea for sure but as @Golfgr8 says, definitely check with individual schools you’re interested in. DS has had PGs on his fall team both this year and last, and I think the kid this year had gone through the college process and just wasn’t very excited about his options. My sense is the PG process may be more fluid.

Thanks @CTMom21. I have a few friends I play organized sports with who are awesome, award-winning athletes but aren’t getting into the colleges they want. I think this might be a good option for them.

@springfield18: This is a great question. Thank you for raising the issue.

In which sports are you & your friends competing ? I ask because posters can recommend prep schools for particular sports,

Thanks, @publisher. I was just curious as I know a few friends who are among the top basketball in our sport in my area but they have yet to commit to a college and I’ve seen dozens of girls we play with who committed back in September & October. To be honest, I’m not sure they’re even aware that PG is an option. Before I bring it up to them I want to make sure I know all about it and if it’s even possible after February. Like @CTMom21 said, the process has to be fluid, right?

I would think, though my only knowledge is based on the fact that DS’s school has PGs sprinkled across the main sports (football, soccer, hockey, basketball, baseball, lacrosse) and I know that some of those kids had formerly applied to college and/or were D1 commits looking for alternatives and wanting to solidify their academics.

Most of the PG kids I know have done the PG year at the recommendation of a college coach. It was either about needing another year to get bigger and stronger or needing to get their academics up to a higher level to clear admissions.

There are definitely kids for ehom this makes sense, but I am not sure it is generally a great gap year option.
