Pharmaceutical/ Biotech industry

So if I'm interested in this field. How does it work? Do I work for a few years and then go back to get my MBA?
I'm currently a microbio major. Is it wise to get a masters and then work (as a pharmaceutical sales rep) for a few years before applying to b-school? I have attempted to find literature on this, but the ones I encountered are usually refering to biotech jobs in R&D. The ones on pharmaceutical sales usually mention that a B.S. is necessary... but they don't go into whether sales reps go on to pursue MBAs or not. I would think that they do since MBAs provide training in marketing.
Thanks!

or consulting for that matter. How does it work if one wants to go the consulting route instead? Still work as a sales rep first, or something else?
Just trying to get a feel of the options.

With a microbio degree in the pharma/biotech world you will try to be pigeon holed into a lab position. Once there, unless you wish to become a lab manager or QA manager, you will always be there. IMO, that route, even with an MBA, is difficult to get up the ladder since there are tons of lab rats with PhDs and MBAs looking to get to the top.

The sales route sounds like a better option, especially if you can't see yourself in a lab for years. A tech background, coupled with an MBA and sales experience should be higly appreciated in the biotech/pharma realm, especially in regards to inside sales and supply chain management.
