I'm from Australia so evidently my knowledge in the reputation and strength of US universities is basically lacking. I'm looking at applying to pharmacy and I understand this is a graduate degree in most US colleges. What undergrad prerequisites are needed? I'm assuming a Science degree would be preferable? If I go straight into one of the 6-year pharmacy schools straight out of high school, would this be looked down upon in the future - is it preferred that I do four years of undergrad studies first?

Also, do Americans rank the Universities of California above USC or the other way round?

If you can get into a 6-year program right out of high school, do it. Admission into the third year is very competitive and not at all a sure thing. Once you finish school, you will take your licensing exam and become "registered". After that, nobody will ever know or even care where you attended school, or if you have some other degree. If you can't get into a 6-year program, I would take the PCAT and apply after two years of undergrad. I would only get the bachelors degree if it takes you that long to get accepted into a pharmacy program.

I don't think you'll be looked down upon in the future either. If you decided to go into another profession though, it would be difficult since you would have the equivalent of an associate's degree

Much thanks to both of you for your replies.

In Australia, you can either do a 4-year pharmacy course straight out of high school, or do a 3-year bachelor degree and then enter a pharmacy grad program. Sounds as though studying in America would just lengthen my time at uni by a few years, but I suppose it would nonetheless be a good experience. I guess I'll have to see which one I get accepted into first, anyway.
