Phi Beta Kappa

I'm getting ahead of myself here, but that's the only way my brain works.

Any tips for graduating Phi Beta Kappa?

If you mean Latin Honors (for whatever reason that’s what we call it at wellesley), don’t leave the library unless it’s for classes or to sleep. Or don’t even sleep. That basically describes the few people I’ve met (because there are few) who have latin honors. Honestly, prettttty much everyone at Wellesley is really smart. And just to graduate you have to be REALLY motivated because everyone else is and it forces you to be. To graduate as the top tiny percent of those really genius people is almost unnecessary, because having a wellesley degree IS an accomplishment in and of itself. That said, if you manage to do it, that’s awesome. But since you said you’re getting ahead of yourself I’m assuming you haven’t started at Wellesley yet, in which case STOP WORRYING ABOUT IT!! Your first-year grades don’t count toward Honors anyway. Enjoy your time!!

Phi Beta Kappa is distinct from Latin honors. You’ll find the eligibility criteria set out on the local chapter’s web page:

I am a Wellesley parent and a faculty member at another liberal arts college, so I don’t know what the process at Wellesley might be, but that should give you a general idea. And best of luck, even though I would agree that it probably is too early to be thinking about this!

actually, in response to when grades count for latin honors, that’s for before 2009… so for those entering after 2009, grades after the first semester count towards latin honors (crap)
