Phillips Andover 2016 (Q&A, etc)

I heard that P.E. is required. Do we have to take a term of that by the end of junior year? Also, what clothing brands would you recommend for each season?

@acoolperson Everyone has to take P.E. by the end of sophomore (or lower) year. Most take it lower year, but some take it freshman year. I recommend taking P.E. lower year.

As for brands, I’m sure it matters to some people, but it isn’t actually a huge deal. Maybe someone else would answer differently.

Thank you! @natakwali . Just for future reference, why would P.E. be the best option in Lower year?

More personal preference, IMO. For me, I thought it was better to start to knock out the art and music requirement freshman year. Classes only get harder as the years go on, and let’s be real, PE is not exactly a time consuming class.

Brands are a personal preference, one that did not matter (and still doesn’t) to me. Wear what you like.

Thanks! @skieurope

When do the forms start coming in? (dorms, etc.)

It took a while for forms to come in. DS did not get his assigned dorm or roommate until late summer (July/Aug). I think there was a preference form that came in May or June. The online placement tests were done earlier too – maybe in May.

One thing that worked so well was the roommate pairing. Maybe he was just lucky, but it appeared that some thought went into choosing his roommate and they are extremely compatible.

Re : housing at Andover
Can someone tell me if Pease house has any two room doubles?

Pease doesn’t have two room doubles, however the rooms with two rooms are all quite large. Also, it is very unlikely that you would be given Pease, because Pease is a stack that is usually given to returners who choose to stack with each other, or returners transferring from other dorms. It is pretty nice on the inside though.

Is there any random advice for entering juniors(freshmen) that one would not think of at first?

Just got one question for you guys.

  1. Are you allowed to bring game devices such as PC, PSX, Etc to your dormitory?

@MABlue what was the lacrosse incident that happened on the preseason trip?

Can you? Yes. Should you? Probably not. You (and every other applicant) have absolutely no idea how time consuming and challenging life at boarding school will be. It’s better to leave the time-suck devices at home, at least until you have finetuned your time management skills.
