Hi everyone. My name is Juan (it’s not), and I wanted to ask you guys a couple of questions. I received my scores, and I got in the 89th percentile (Verbal = 93 %, Math=89%, and Reading=59%, btw these are approximations, but still pretty accurate). I take all honors classes, these include French II and Algebra I (math not accelerated). I have a B in math, but the comments on my report card were excellent. My extracurriculars include “speedy boy in middle school (track),” karate, theatre, and community service (habitat for humanity). I got into the “regional science fair.” I’m an excellent writer (i think), and I use lots of sensory details. I also am quite good at public speaking (which helps in the debate). I believe that I am a cute little kid that is nice, and good at writing, but maybe not able to cope with the academic heat. Please help!!!
Thank! I’m applying for 9th-grade btw. I am a Hispanic boy. I’m not fake I swear!!! In the interview I talked a little too much, is that ok?
If you guys could give me like responses that would be great!!
first of all, I want to say, you’re really so modest, can you please describe your ECA’s little bit more?
Uh my ECA? Not sure what that means… and thanks about the modesty part (I don’t like bragging).
ECA: extracurricular activities
Oh ok.
Track- (2 years of experience)
I’ve been to the state competition and got a time of 12.50 (not super fast, but it’s still ok).
Karate- (6 years)
I’m an instructor and black belt.
Soccer-(9 years)
I play for a club and I’m a left back and defense
Debate- (1 year)
I love debate this year, I’m the 2nd Affirmative Constructive primarily.
Community Service- (2 years)
There are no “ranks” of leadership, but I guess I’m just a recognizing member. I work with the Agape Center and Christmas lighting for the kids.
Theatre - (3 years)
I’ve starred in 3 productions.
Aquaculture Project- (1 year)
I’ve been farming with fish!
I’m not like a geek when it comes to academics, so no “Mathcounts” or like “AMC8” for me. Just a simple boy ya know. Honestly, I think that so many kids do that contest, that it doesn’t seem as special anymore, but hey I don’t know what those admission people are thinking.
If you don’t think you can cope with the ‘academic heat’, why are you applying?
Andover is an ULTRA rigorous academic environment. It is not for the faint-hearted.
i don’t want to be that person but i found your post slightly offensive, though i don’t think it was intentional. perhaps it was the way you referred to people taking the amc and math counts as geeks, then proceeded to say that it’s not special? then to refer to your school’s maths course as ‘dumb people maths’?
i sincerely hope, for your benefit, you didn’t act like this in your interviews or write in this condescending manner; perhaps some, just a few, would take offence.
i haven’t a bone to pick with you, though. i promise
