We are working on a possible visit to see Bryn Mawr and it might work out for us to come in to the 30th street Amtrak station, then take the SEPTA regional rail out to Bryn Mawr. Any input or tips on this trip? What about the safety on the regional rail? I am not familiar with the areas that it will be traveling through to get to Bryn Mawr. I am guessing we’d want to avoid high traffic (rush hour times)?

We are interested in the information for the visit, but also for our D, who would be traveling this on her own if she attended Bryn Mawr. For this visit I think we will come in via Amtrak, but future visits and D traveling on her own would likely be the Airport. What is regional rail from the airport to Bryn Mawr like?

All of the regional rail lines in the Septa system are standard commuter lines and are safe and easy to use. Now subway, bus etc might vary depending on what neighborhood you travel through. D2 who just finished freshman year at Drexel took the train fairly regularly to travel home or to NYC via Trenton. Haven’t done the airport one but shouldn’t be different. .

All SEPTA’s lines are perfectly easy to navigate. The Airport Line is no exception. Travelling from PHL to Bryn Mawr will require a transfer at 30th Street Station. From a commute perspective, Bryn Mahr is a breeze to got to/from.

Thank you all for the input. I am not very accustomed to bigger cities, and using public transportation. We’ve used the metro when visiting DC a couple times, but that’s about it!

As a BMC alum who grew up in that area – Bryn Mawr and the surrounding towns (Haverford, Gladwyne, Wynnewood etc) are lovely communities in an area known as the “Main Line” (for the train line that runs through the series of towns). The Main Line is beautiful, expensive, and very safe. The College is a short walk from the Bryn Mawr train station, and the area around the train station has small shops and businesses. One of the advantages of BMC is that it is a gorgeous Gothic, residential campus (we used to say that the Princeton architect practiced on BMC) with easy access to everything Philly has to offer. A wonderful, special place, enjoy your visit.
