philosophy major?

i'm a senior right now, and im pretty interested in majoring in philosophy. im in southern california right now, and what would be some good undergrad schools for this major? i've heard ucla has a good philosophy department.

also, although im interested in this major, my parents believe that i cant make a living with this. what career options do i have available? i'm not that interested in education, but that is an option.

thanks

My English teacher was a philosophy major, it makes for interesting classes lol. I've heard that philosophy majors often go into law or medicine. I've been thinking about majoring in Philosophy as well, and I'm looking at small LACs in the northeast.

i wanted to major in philosophy.1 month into my senior year high school philosophy class, i changed my mind.it got boring T_T

NYU has one of the best philosophy programs in the country right now.

You'd be hard pressed, however, to find a school in the top tier with a BAD philosophy program.

To Ghard, how about Caltech?

Touch

Now that I think about it, bad is relative, so it's probable that although Caltech's philosophy offerings are probably poor, they're above average.

I wouldn't pick Caltech if you're interested in simply getting a philosophy major. Sure, it's a reasonable second major, but you come to Caltech because of your passion for math, science, and engineering.

Well, of course. But its offerins in philosophy are probably not weak. They're just not particularly strong.

My D is a philosophy major and absolutely loves her program at New College of FL. Last year she found this website (<a href="http://www.philosophicalgourmet.com/undergrad.asp%5B/url%5D">http://www.philosophicalgourmet.com/undergrad.asp</a>) that has a good list of strong philosophy programs and used it to help decide where to apply.
