Phone Call Survey

Did anyone else get called for a random phone survey? Someone called me yesterday from F&M and asked me survey questions.

Yes, my son received a phone survey yesterday about admissions.

The phone survey was conducted by the Center for Opinion Research at Franklin & Marshall College and the purpose was to gather data to assist in the analysis of F&M's yield rates in Regular Decision. Like many colleges and universities, Franklin & Marshall exeperience a 23% increase in applictions this year. In an attempt to understand the dynamics of the increase and it's impact on yield rates we were gathering information through this survey to assist in our analysis. Callers were instructed to identify themselves, the purpose of the survey, and for whom the survey was being conducted. The information provided did not impact admission, scholarship, or financial aid decisions as these have already been determined and letters are being printed to mail next week.

I have contacted the person responsible for supervising the survey and expressed my displeasure that in some cases callers did not identify themselves. For this reason, the survey has been discontinued. The purpose of the survey was to gather information about how students were responding to Franklin & Marshall and what we could do to measure student perceptions in a competitive pool. It is not being used to influence admission decisions or scholarship offers, although I understand how anxious students might be concerned about this.

I apologize for any anxiety created by the survey and encourage anyone with further questions or concerns to contact me.

Dennis Trotter
Dean of Admission
Franklin & Marshall College

Mr. Trotter,

Thanks for your post. I am sure this information will be comforting to some applicants.

I had seen mention of the survey on this site so suspected what the call was when it came for my daughter. The caller did identfy themselves from F&M midway through the call.

Congratulations on the upswing in applications from a member of the Class of 1977.

By the way, my daughter said the guy "sounded cute"...I have no idea how one knows that!!!

Mr. Trotter,

Do F&M release admission online? If yes, when will applicants be notified?

Thank you.

Mr. Trotter,
Thank you so much for the detailed response. I was slightly nervous that saying the wrong thing might have affected admission decisions.

Franklin & Marshall does not have an online notification system. I will be signing decision letters next week and letters will be mailed March 23rd, so expect delivery to most homes during the week of the March 26th.

Good luck to all.

Dennis Trotter

Thanks Mr. Trotter.

Mr. Trotter,
Did those acceptance / rejection letters eventually get mailed last Friday, March 23? I'm wondering if there was a slight delay.

Yes, there was a delay due to financial aid award letters being matched with the correct admission letters in the packets. Packets were dropped in the mail today. If you don't hear by Friday then contact me at my office and we can discuss. I apologize for not updating this thread earlier.

Dennis

Good news. My son received his acceptance letter today.
We are in the central PA area, the letter did not have to travel too far.
