Touring a college in Michigan with my daughter and it’s so lovely here!

My relatives loved MI, except they found cold winters tough. We are warm weather folks.

We drove here from MN, so she’s probably used to it, at least.

Can confirm! With the warm October, the leaves changing have been late. But they finally got here.

Of course here in Northern Michigan we are getting lake effect snow this weekend. As is Minnesota according to the weather forecast I saw.

But I find winter in Michigan beautiful

Here in New England the leaves are falling off the trees much later than usual. We have predominantly oaks surrounding our property, and normally I have raked once by now, doing the final raking Thanksgiving week. I have yet to even start raking yet. Meteorologists have attributed this to both unusually high temps and high rainfall all year.

We’re still grazing ponies on our fields. Normally that’s done by the first week of Nov. In the past our leaves have been essentially gone around Halloween. Now we still have several that look pretty.

When we were up on the Blue Ridge Parkway there was a guy making a podcast about how the season has extended.

Plus, either last year or this year they officially extended our growing season by two weeks according to the weatherman on the news.

The climate is definitely changing!

Yes, our leaves stayed on longer this year too. Halloween is always may gauge. Every year, we would be madly raking our yard the weekend before. And then the day before Halloween some storm would blown more down and we’d be madly raking the steps for the kids. So far this year, we’ve only raked once. The rain last night blew down a bunch however.

I put these little pilgrims on the front door every year. I’ve named them after our daughter and son… always have them hold hands.

Our first frost is normally around Columbus day week. It came in late October last year. This year’s first frost was last week.

Our maple trees are pretty much done with leaves at this point. Oaks are still falling. Thanksgiving weekend is typically when we finish up.

Right now, hoping for favorable winds to blow leaves into neighbors’ yards. I tell my neighbors that each spring, I mark my initials on all of the leaves on the trees in my yard. So any leaves without my initials on them are from their trees. They never buy it though.

We just had a big Pineapple Express windstorm. Southern winds blew the majority of the leaves from our driveway back into the forest where they all naturally belong. :+1:

It’s going to be near 80 degrees today and all this weekend near the beach in San Diego. Back to our “fall” weather next Tuesday.

When it comes to leaves, our maples can be very prolific…

We just drove in to our local Market to eat at the food court. The leaves around here are gorgeous. I thought the storm last night would have brought them down, but definitely not all of them. I didn’t get a picture though.

Otherwise, we had our 2nd or 3rd longest “summer” in recorded weather history according to our weatherman, having missed being first or second by just a day or two. I believe the “bar” to end summer was getting a temperature below 40 degrees.

Leaves are falling in SC; the excessive rain led to fungus and quick change brown leaves this year on the walnuts and oaks, but the sugar maples have been beautiful. I’m enjoying the last few days of our camellias. Fall brings the best sunsets to this area

Marilyn, are the beets roasted? That salad has several things H likes in salads, so would like to replicate it for him!

Apparently the beets are carmelized! It was at Copley’s in Palm Springs - you could always call and ask the chef for the recipe !

Rezzi got dressed for the first time today - his first day of official “school” and he wasn’t quite sure what to think of it at first. He’s just short of 3 months old, so will likely be sold as a Christmas pony next month. He has some lessons to learn before then. Today he rather quickly learned to lead around the stall and he already knows to pick up his feet.

Babies are such fun to play with in school. It’s all new to them, but they process new things so quickly and seem so proud of themselves afterward. Then, like all youngsters, they love going out to kick up their heels and play.

ps I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much ear fluff (fur) on one pony - has anyone else who’s had equines? My first inclination is to trim it, but it sure makes him look cute! I’m not sure what kind of winter he’s expecting to have…
